This article challenges the imperative of objectivity and detachment that is promoted in qualitative research. Drawing on a dialogue about our shadowing experiences, we demonstrate that this imperative is reflected in the shadow metaphor itself. We propose an alternative metaphor to shadowing as weaving relationships, which highlights the deeply relational and embodied nature of this process and the centrality of the relationship between the researcher (the shadower) and the person being shadowed (the shadowee). This alternative approach offers a more nuanced understanding of the research process.

AbstractThis paper focuses on the hybrid writing of American authors of Hispanic descent in its double dimension as a process of translation and representation, and also as a process subject to other processes of translation and representation, including scholarly assessment and description. It examines the problems and ideological implications of translating these translated fictions, inasmuch as this writing calls into question both traditional visions of literature and hegemonic translation models.

The aim was to show the extent to which Philippe Vilain's work belongs to both autofiction and the novel of analysis. My intention was to highlight its dual nature. As such, Philippe Vilain’s work draws inspiration from nineteenth century novels, while seamlessly integrating into the contemporary literary landscape. In this context, I have chosen to explore the resonance between two key texts: Benjamin Constant's Adolphe and Philippe Vilain's Le Renoncement – from three points of view: intermittent filiations, the effects of silence and the force of digressions. To provide a comprehensive perspective, I referenced several of Philippe Vilain's other novels (such as Pas son genre, Une idée de l’enfer, L’Étreinte, Un matin d’hiver, Paris l’après-midi) and critical works; and in so doing I have attempted to establish the distinctive identity of pensive fiction from his numerous literary contributions.

From the negative connotation it receives in Marx’s theory to the idea that from birth we live in a network that is imbued with it, as Mannheim claims, ideology has always aroused the interest of researchers. The promotion of an ideology, and the change of one by another, is made possible by propaganda. However, for propaganda to succeed in promoting an ideology legitimizing a certain course of events, it must be based on a series of values deeply rooted in society. The propagandist discourse will appeal to the axiological universe to motivate and mask actions, facts, and ways of thinking. From a political point of view, all forms of societies use propaganda; in this regard, it is important to look at how varied the values used in propaganda discourse are and what they are masking.
