The authors address the issue of forgiveness from the experience of victims of sexual abuse who often bear it very acutely. Christianity generally holds forgiveness as a Christian duty, based on a theology that views reconciliation as the heart of salvation history. The New Testament carries a call to forgive that cannot be denied. But it is not necessarily without conditions, and we should not disregard the context of the fault or the relationship between the actors. In a strange inversion of the dynamics of forgiveness, psychology on the other hand considers the benefits of forgiveness for the one who forgives rather than for the one who is forgiven. It also knows the long paths and dead ends of forgiveness which theology cannot ignore. This calls for a theology that is more sensitive to victims and justice, and that handles the issue of forgiveness and reconciliation more cautiously. Like love, forgiveness is a gift and it cannot be forced.Forgiveness is not an obligation that should be imposed on victims, who often are the weakest ones. If the grace of God allows us to forgive where human will and power reach their limits, maybe there also is a grace to refuse forgiveness until something changes or a grace to make justice so that life abounds.

On the basis of Benjamin's meditations on the effect of WW I on the art of telling, the author develops the notion of an epistemic rupture in both the figuration of the ennemy and the sense of place. She then turns to post-WW II literature in order to mesure the intensification of this rupture in the Cold War context.

This article studies the representation of memory, truth and archive in Camille Laurens's La petite danseuse de quatorze ans (2017). The book relates the life of Marie Van Goethem, a teenage girl, both unknown and extremely famous, having served as the model for Degas's eponymous sculpture. Laurens's work, between essay and a biography, is based on facts and offers a complex exploration of memory. The promotion of the archive allows Laurens to delve into her own memories and to question her family history in order to endow Marie Van Goethem with a past. Using Paul Ricoeur's notion of “work of memory” (La mémoire, l'histoire, l'oubli), this article shows how Laurens's aesthetic/ethical [esth/éthique] approach (Paul Audi, Créer) results in a reversal of perspective on the artist/model relationship and an enhancement of the model's status that redefines the role of Degas's sculpture in art history.

AbstractThis article deals with the ethical issues related to the increasing use of antidepressants. The intake of psychoactive drugs causes a modification of behavior and challenges the level of responsibility derived from it. Is it then necessary to develop new ethical ways to understand actions taken under influence ? This article describes the new situation triggered by the growing influence of molecules on the decision-making process.

This article discusses the power of language in artistic and pedagogical contexts. Based on the work of Charles Taylor and Paul Ricoeur, the components of language proficiency are first exposed. This is followed by analyses of the language used by the director in the context of theatrical creation, which shed light on issues related to the language proficiency of teachers in theater classrooms. Personal experiments are also be presented which demonstrate how literature is a valuable didactic tool for the development of the imagination, in view of the fact that literary games create contrasts, shifts in perspective and surprise effects that awaken creativity.

The article presents a comparative analysis of two speculative fictions set in uchronic horizons : Ponce Pilate (Roger Caillois, Gallimard, 1961) and Good Omens (Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Corgi, 1991). Both novels represent unique examples of a paradoxical form of speculation, deliberately crafted in opposition to the logics of theodicy and closed paradigms such as history, theology, and eschatological schemes. Employing an original narrative device, these works aim to restore freedom of choice and action to the characters within the plot, extending the same privilege to the readers. In doing so, the novels transcend the boundaries of the anticipation genre and provide a critical commentary on the acknowledged legitimacy and authority of the fait accompli, introducing the principle of the randomness of necessity in fictional worlds where nothing is predetermined.

This paper is about the turn that occurred in philosophy in Quebec in the years 1973-1977. I claim that there was then a changing of the guard in the philosophical milieu as well as a significant increase in the number of publications. Three subjects especially stand out in these publications : religion, social relevance of philosophy, and language. I also show how analytical philosophy was introduced in Quebec during this period. Finally, these various points are exemplified by looking at the collective book Culture et langage (1973), which is especially representative of the turn in question.

In certain rare pathological situations, medical knowledge is lacking, and uncertainty plays a key role in the understanding of illness. The latter is built up on a daily basis, but also in the care relationship, and is based on the recounting of a singular experience rather than on preconceived, objectified forms of knowledge. In this context, the identity of patients and caregivers - their relationship to themselves, to others and to the world - is disrupted and needs to be rebuilt, particularly through caregiver-caregiver-caregiver interactions. Experiential knowledge can be seen as the substrate through which the identity of those involved in caregiving finds a singular means of expression, the links between which and self-narrative need to be better understood. The article focuses on the dimension of identity inherent in experiential knowledge, based on the process of making sense that is associated with the process of putting things into words by care workers. But the singularity of these individualized experiences only acquires its true meaning through the sharing of this experience, for which the self-narrative is the main intermediary. From this point on, the discussion also focuses on the collective dimension of identity at stake in exchanges between caregivers and carers on the subject of experiential knowledge relating to their situation.

SummaryAlthough there is an increasing interest of human resource managers on the theme of recognition, the effects of an assumed lack of recognition remain confined to a strictly psychological and individual level. The accumulation of individual experiences related to the lack of recognition may generate, at the collective level, counterproductive behaviors that, therefore, have an effect on organizational efficiency. In this way, a number of questions remain unanswered in the field of recognition in the workplace. What does recognition mean? What do we recognize or what would we like to see recognized? Recognition understood as consideration comes close to recognition understood as reputation; recognition sometimes deals with accomplishments or efficiency or even group belonging. The aim of this paper is to firmly establish the study of recognition in the process of identity construction at work. Even though work—inside more and more complex and flexible organizations—has lost its centrality in the life of individuals, it remains both a place and a factor for identity development. Thus, multiple signs of recognition may contribute to reinforce and stabilize the identity at work.Since it is an ongoing process, identity is shaped and reshaped by continuous interactions with others. Do experiences at work, in interactional situations, constitute a way of testing a shifting identity, constantly being reshaped by signs of recognition, granted or not? Work is an important place in the construction and confirmation of self. The objective of this paper is to identify and analyze the role of recognition at work in the process of identity construction. More specifically, work is approached using two perspectives: (1) as a place of socialization in which constructing self depends on interactions with others (supervisors, colleagues, subordinates, and customers); (2) as a tool that is mobilized in the process of validating the identities of the actors. Utilizing a qualitative design, based on comprehensive in-depth interviews, we asked Tunisian workers about their experiences of recognition at work. A qualitative approach is particularly useful in that it does not impose a content of recognition; rather, it allows respondents to describe recognition forms and criteria in their own terms. Our results were used to develop a framework that details the role of recognition at work in the process of constructing professional identity. This framework distinguishes between the contents and the processes of recognition. In terms of contents, recognition is characterized by its bi-dimensionality going from conformity recognition to recognition of distinction. As a process, recognition at work supposes movement at different levels: identification, certificate of value, and reward. A major contribution of this study is to integrate works on recognition and identity at work. Finally, practical implications to help human resource professionals to better understand and manage recognition practices are discussed.
