Today, a strategic dimension is associated to patents and to their traditional function of protecting innovations: that of blocking the route of innovation of competitors. We attempt to identify the determinants of the use of blocking patents, using the distinction between offensive and defensive strategies. This research, which combines deduction and induction, is based on the perception of French intellectual property managers and attorneys. The main determinants of the use of blocking patents appear to be firm size, the activity's technological intensity, the type of legal system and the intellectual property culture.

Given the importance of knowing how to search, evaluate and use information on the Internet, this study aims to know the informational skills used by teachers in order to document, by observation, their mode of operation and their level of ease during a keyword research. This descriptive and exploratory research allowed the discovery of new research strategies as well as the adaptation and enrichment of an information skills model developed from existing models. In conclusion, we analyze these results in relation to existing research while offering avenues of recommendations for improving teacher training.

The political strategy aimed at managing the firm's stakeholders can be explored through the articulation of stakeholder theory and the analysis of complex networks. Stakeholders appear as structured in the form of a network of "small worlds", that is, as a set of dense clusters with weak interconnections. These networks are subject to random or intentional systemic shocks that influence the urgency of the situation facing the firm and the legitimacy of its actions. The embedding of the firm (strong or weak) and the nature of the shock (random or intentional) determines the choice of the firm between a reactive, accommodating, proactive or defensive political strategy.

AbstractThis paper compares the French-speaking and English-speaking enterprises of New Brunswick involved in 12 types of international expansion : export (under five types), joint venture, consulting, wholly owned subsidiaries, subcontract, barter or countertrade, license and turnkey projects. Based on tests of proportions, the results indicate significant differences between the two groups even when the effect of the size has been removed. The relations between ethnic origin and some strategies are very strong and are always unidirectional : always associated positively with a given group and associated negatively with the other. This is true both at the global level of the sample and at the level of the small companies and medium companies.
