Reading difficulty represent an important factor of risk of dropping out of school, issue who is more present to the boys. The study presented in this article focused on the development of two reading comprehension strategies, inference and text recall, using an approach based on comic book. The aim of this study was to measure the impact of this intervention on the reading motivation and the degree of acquisition of the two strategies studied on 30 fifth grade boys experiencing learning difficulties. The results suggest that the intervention would have had some impact on the motivation of students in the experimental group which possibly attenuated, among them, the lack of motivation that occurred among students who received regular teaching. In addition, it is also possible to observe a statistical trend that is very close to being considered statistically significant in the control group where the ability to use clues to produce an inference seems to decrease between the two test periods, unobserved trend among students who participated in the intervention. Finally, the results show an increase which is close to being considered significant in the experimental group in terms of the ability to produce a text recall of comic book, which was not observed in the control group.

A recent literature raises the question of the desirable degree of visibility or publicity of individual behaviors. In these analyzes, greater visibility strengthens reputation incentives, which can be socially useful. In return, the resulting behaviors are less informative about the characteristics of individuals, which can be undesirable. I re-examine this question in a context where more visibility stems from a greater number of sources of information on the actions of individuals, in multiple contractual interactions. Contrary to recent literature, more visibility then has the effect of diluting or even completely eliminatiing reputational incentives. In return, this improves information on the characteristics of individuals, with the ultimate disappearance of information asymmetries.

ABSTRACTIn 1992, indicative of the transition from the welfare state to the 'supportive state', the Quebec government introduced a major reform of its regional development policies and programs. The reform marked the end of the epoch when regional development meant both support for problematic regions and the standardization of management, combining flexibility and privatization. Local and regional communities had responsibility for planning their development transferred to them and, consequently, that for forming new consensuses between social and economic actors with the aim of promoting private enterprise in the regions. To what extent has this change helped strengthen local communities ? That is the question posed in this article and which it attempts to answer, first explaining from the theoretical point of view the relationship between regional development and the welfare state, and then reexamining the evolution of regional development in Quebec from the "Quiet Revolution" to date.

The aims of this study are to describe the relationship between the entry-exit paths into prostitution among street-involved young women, and to compare the representations of this strategy among young women who have already used prostitution and those who haven't. Sixteen young street-involved women, aged between 18 and 25 were interviewed in semi-structured individual interviews. Based on a qualitative methodology, two groups of young women were compared: one who reported prostitution practices (9/16) and the other who did not (7/16). Their testimonies highlight the role of precariousness in the street context and the need to meet urgent needs through the use of prostitution. The precarious living conditions make the young women vulnerable to the influence of others in making the use of prostitution more acceptable in order to meet their needs.

AbstractThe main features of the manufacturing industries in the Province of Quebec are well known. Those industries are heavily concentrated in the Montreal area. They sell an important part of their output outside the Province. They exhibit structural weaknesses. Their importance in the Canadian economy has been declining in the past 25 years. We should not be too optimistic about the situation since 1971. Some officials claimed that the Province has known a new start in the manufacturing sector but the statistical facts do not confirm such a view. The Province therefore needs a really new strategy. The article tries to outline some of the constraints and features of this new strategy.

This article attempts to identify the great issues which have formed the mainstay of the strategic literature over the past twenty-five years. Its is essentially designee to acquaint the student with the major works and debates which have been published or discussed over the same period of time. The only new debates seem to bear on the ecological consequences of a nuclear war, and on the resurgence of the pacifist movements. The last section deals with the major issues of the future, such as outer space, ballistic missile defense, and the potential increase of the risks of a conventional war due to the progress of technology.
