This article explores assessment within an active pedagogical framework by examining the experience of a second-grade elementary student in a U.S. public school. The teacher fosters an engaging learning environment by encouraging students to take on the role of teacher, including during assessment activities. Additionally, an inclusive approach involving parents helps cultivate a sense of trust within the classroom. By analyzing students’ discourse, this study aims to document an innovative assessment practice and highlight its underlying learning purpose. It contributes to the ongoing discussion on rethinking assessment from multiple perspectives to enhance its role in student development.

In 2014, the French magazine Closer rose a scandal by publishing pictures of French President François Hollande, in the backseat of a scooter on his way to secretly join his mistress. This episode shows the extent of the “peopolization” of the French political life, namely, the mediatization of politicians ‘private life, weither they are willing to do so or not. Revealing strategic sides of their personal lives allows politicians to stage virtues that can legitimize their aspiration to rule while avoiding talking about the political stakes. This « glaucous propaganda » brings its own antidote. Because it tests the claimed virtue, the private life of politicians are given special attention. The scandalous peopolization of the «closergate» is akin to a form of symbolic resistance that invalidates this type of propaganda based on the display of private virtues.

The notion of territory is still poorly integrated into the theoretical models most frequently used in social work. This paper, carried out for our Master’s thesis, seeks to better define the issues regarding travel and mobility in rural social work, by presenting the reality of social workers in La Haute-Côte-Nord MRC (regional county municipality), in the province of Quebec. This MRC is an essentially rural and disadvantaged region. The model proposed by Augustin and al. (2023) used here, integrates the notions of space to the various systemic levels, from the place of dwelling to global spaces, and also integrates their feedback loops of interactions between the levels. By enhancing the analysis of the complexities emerging from interactions with the spatial dimension, it allows to account for the challenges faced and strategies used by social workers in a region where this dimension is an integral part of their work. These realities are also shown here in the preliminary results of our current research.

Being interested in socioecological issues, whether global or local, involves considering the different aspects of a territory; which implies adopting an interdisciplinary approach. It is with this interdisciplinary perspective that the story of the socio-ecological transition in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec) is presented using a biographical approach. Accounts of actors, with the contribution of a consistent press review, allow us to observe this narrative. The latter is expressed by themes related to hope and anxiety, the need to adapt, the consideration of elements for quality of life such as the landscape, social ties, as well as the desire to continue to realize projects in a social and solidarity economy. Thus, actors who were apparently isolated initially, but who have distinguished themselves through social ecology practices where interactions are essential, can contribute to the transformation of the territory.

This article provides a review and an analysis of an ethnographic study undertaken during a Catholic cinema spiritual retreat. The aim was to compare two specific moments of film reception involving the theme of “Christ’s face”. This ethnography can assess the influence of those cinematographic works on the spirituality of the retreaters and their impact on the elaboration of a collective religious identity. It includes a methodological reflection on the conditions of carrying out a survey, at the crossroads of religious anthropology and film studies.

In this article, we reflect on how cinema conveys the harshness of the internal struggle between faith and worldly experience. Based on our analysis of Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal, Andreï Tarkovsky’s Andreï Rublev, and Maurice Pialat’s Under the Sun of Satan – three films considered as sources in their own right –, we argue that cinema offers new insights into the theological theme of inner struggle. By embodying spiritual life and making this struggle perceptible, cinematic language goes beyond the mere representation or inventory of those tensions : on the contrary, it questions their reality.
