In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards the integration of artificial intelligence features into records and archives management practices in order to improve the quality of recorded information and multiply the opportunities of its use by users according to their needs. This raises the question of whether we can speak about a fifth archival paradigm, that is, automation, which calls for a revision of the processes by which recorded information is created, processed, disseminated and preserved over the long term. Based on Cook's archival paradigms, this article aims to explore the way automation can be part of the continuity of these paradigms and how archivists and records managers should reinvent their roles in this context.

This article examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on computer and Internet access services in Canadian public libraries as well as the implications of this lack of access for people facing socioeconomic barriers, and how Canadian public libraries could address digital divide issues in the post-pandemic era. Recommendations on future pandemic preparedness for public libraries are also discussed in this article. This research project conducted a bilingual (English and French) online survey targeting public library technicians, librarians, and library board members across Canada. From 1,631 research invitation emails sent to public library staff across Canada and three Facebook posts on Canadian public library staff groups, over a one-year period from November 3, 2021, to November 6, 2022. 226 individuals participated in the online survey questionnaire. Findings suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated social inequalities in Canada, including access to computers and the Internet. The digital divide could lead to poor health outcomes and put existing disadvantaged populations at greater risk in terms of future employment opportunities. The digital divide needs to be addressed so that Canadians in low-income households and those living with disabilities do not get left behind. Importantly, public libraries in Canada have been working tirelessly to equalize access to computers, the Internet, and digital literacy training and support. Their determination, social responsibility, and professional ethics need to be acknowledged. Finally, this article's recommendations for future pandemic preparedness in Canadian public libraries may also be applicable and beneficial to public libraries globally.

This article is part of broader research on the well-being of teachers in Quebec; more specifically, assessing their socio-emotional competencies (SEC), which are poorly documented. In the absence of questionnaires in French (Yoder, 2014) to assess them, it was proposed to develop a new questionnaire following the seven-step approach of Frenette et al. (2019), which maximizes obtaining validity evidence. A sample of 401 teachers allowed us to accumulate various validity evidence supporting the use of this questionnaire. The analyses showed that the two-factor (intrapersonal and interpersonal) conceptual model fits the data well. According to the perception of Quebec teachers, the results highlight three findings: (1) SEC are used occasionally in classroom, (2) the interpersonal component is more present in their interventions than the intrapersonal one, and (3) young teachers present lower averages for the intrapersonal component compared to their older colleagues. Future research is needed to support these findings and justify the importance of introducing SEC into teacher training in Quebec.

We begin with inequalities: the health of the planet and humanity depends on our ability to reduce them. Inequalities lead societies into interrelated crises: environmental, climatic, energetic, agricultural, economic, social, and public health. While certain individuals and groups are disproportionately more affected than others, everyone at all levels of society suffer from negative impacts of inequalities. To improve our understanding of these inequalities, we focus on two main areas: the population and the way in which it consumes the planet; and adaptation to stresses, in particular those induced by socio-environmental problems caused by our global socio-economic system. Our contribution is twofold. First, the articles together highlight the need to better understand the complex sources of inequalities, which we group into four main categories: information; issues of power; good intentions for development and their adverse effects; and systemic questions, particularly those related to land. In addition, there is a need to understand the socio-environmental challenges that arise from inequalities, which are: those related to scientific knowledge; linked to dynamic nature of diverse situations; concern implementation of projects that aim to reduce inequalities; surrounding obstacles; and other challenges that involve issues of vulnerability and justice. Based on these understandings, our second contribution is the exploration of some solutions, examined from local, national, to global scales. Systemic solutions at different scales are integral to tackle inequalities, in order to achieve a more equitable and just world.

The anonymous thirteenth-century poem La Châtelaine de Vergy, a courtly love story that ends in bloodshed after its central secret is divulged, was adapted as the 70th novella in Marguerite de Navarre’s Heptaméron (published 1558–1559). Matteo Bandello’s Italian adaptation of this version of the story (in his posthumously published Quarta parte delle novelle [1573]) introduces an important change by specifying that the lovers are now clandestinely married; this detail is retained in an anonymous French translation of Bandello’s reworking, which appeared in one of the volumes of the popular Histoires tragiques. While critics have been puzzled at this apparent narrative flaw (marriage needs no secrecy), this essay argues that the shift is intentional by considering it in light of the problem of clandestine marriages and post-Tridentine matrimonial reform. While Marguerite’s novella already recasts the Châtelaine de Vergy story in matrimonial terms, Bandello further exploits its drama of speech, in which tragic events are triggered through speaking and divulging secrets, to question the Church tradition of contracting matrimony merely by the partners’ spoken words. A number of textual ambiguities in the French translation reveal furthermore that the story has subsequently been re-interpreted from a new perspective on betrothal as a non-binding spoken promise that gained ground during the Counter-Reformation. The textual transformations introduced into these three versions, moreover, are examined in the context of the development of the “histoire tragique” as a literary genre during the second half of the sixteenth century. This study thus identifies a correlation between the characteristics of the “histoire tragique” and matrimony’s socio-historical dynamics.

This evaluative study focuses on the implementation and perceived effects of an in-person training program on knowledge translation, which is based on two massive open online courses (MOOCs). The training targeted staff members as well as partners of the Institut Pasteur de Madagascar. The study followed the Kirkpatrick model to evaluate the perceived effects of the training and the TIPEC framework (Technology, Individual, Pedagogy, and Enabling Conditions) to identify facilitators and barriers to its implementation. Data collection was guided by a convergent mixed-methods design. Thirty-two people completed the pre-training questionnaire, of these, 18 responded to the post-training questionnaire and 24 took part in semi-structured interviews five months after the training ended. Most participants indicated that the training, combining MOOCs with in-person support, met their needs, although some highlighted its intensity and high level of difficulty. The practical component of the training and the presence of a trainer were deemed essential to learning. The results suggest that the adopted pedagogical format may represent a relevant and accessible tool for the continuing education of professionals.

Over the last few decades, the ecosystemic approach to the social and solidarity economy (SSE) has gained ground on two fronts: firstly, in the field of collective and public action, and secondly, in academia. This dissemination, or even naturalization, of the ecosystemic approach raises a number of questions. Without rejecting its use, we argue for a sociohistorical and processual approach to SSE ecosystems, considering that while certain territorial dynamics of the SSE may, under certain conditions, accede to an ecosystemic dimension, it is always historically situated, temporary and contingent insofar as it results from power relations and past compromises between actors occupying various positions in heterogeneous fields (economic, bureaucratic, scientific). We will base our discussion on the case of the Territorial Clusters for Economic Cooperation (Pôles territoriaux de coopération économique) in France.
