Considering that a song can be construed as a communication act (Lasswell 1948), we examined, both qualitatively and inductively, the religious content of lyrics as well as the relational context underlying them within 195 national anthems. In line with this goal, our results indicate that religion is present in the lyrics of two thirds of the world's national anthems. Our results also demonstrate that four types of relations underlie the content of lyrics namely intragroup and intergroup relations as well as two parasocial relations (one with country and the other with a religious entity). Finally, our qualitative analyses show that both parasocial interactions can be described as asymmetric yet complementary in nature. Results are discussed in line with the idea that identity is constructed in a relational manner.

While becoming more and more visible in the globalizing academic landscape, partly because of the recognition of PhDs in Translation Studies, the many colleagues who represent the new discipline have good reasons not to assume that they have no more identity problems, although the homogeneity of their research community is not fully obvious. The use of English may seem to have a positive impact on our general image, particularly in the name of the discipline (Translation Studies or TS). Heterogeneity may have positive effects on a discipline, but the lack of harmonization between the various trends of the discipline (training of translators and interpreters, machine translation, descriptive and theoretical research which could be related to applied or fundamental research) may generate a negative impact. Such a lack of harmonization does not make easier integration between and into other academic traditions. There are good reasons for distinguishing between internal and external homogeneity, as one does not really go without the other. Experts in TS could obviously have been more performative in interdisciplinary initiatives. However, in more general terms, academic blindness cannot be excluded. The fact is that several important trends and opportunities in terms of multilingualism, linguistics, society, and communication have been ignored in our discipline. It is the case, for example, of some new innovative movements focusing on internationalization and globalization. How could a static idea of university and disciplines be compatible with research on translation?

The screens and touch-screen keyboards used by children and adolescents allow for new techniques of reading and writing that seem to challenge habits acquired during early reading-writing acquisition. The purpose of this essay is to think of these new capacities from three perspectives. The first part is based on the anthropological work of Leroi-Gourhan (2008a, 2008b), highlighting the evolving relationship between the media, techniques, time, and cultural spaces. The second part analyzes the French ministerial recommendations of 2006, 2011 and 2015, concerning the teaching of writing competencies. The third part is from Bouchardon (2011) where he discussed the ways to analyze emerging techniques created by readers of digital media. The results highlight the need to integrate emerging techniques in the school culture as a means of valuing diverse competencies, tools and media literacy.

Star Trek is a realm of paradigmatic fiction for the system of law. It is based essentially on a complex legal and judiciary architecture, inspired by a universalist model that highlights civil liberties, fundamental human rights, and a fair trial. Tasked to peacefully explore outer space, officers of Starfleet establish law relations and solve conflicts of norms in sometimes uncommon situations, making this entertaining saga a genuine laboratory of law.

The study focuses on the uses of ICT by preservice and practicing teachers. Taking into account the Raby's model (2004), data show that the personal and professional uses by preservice teachers, regardless of their year of training, are similar to those of practicing teachers. Besides, a progressive increase in use from students to teachers is noted. However, only the latter reports pedagogical uses that fall within the appropriation phase, which means common activities in an active and meaningful learning environment. Avenues to improve initial training are proposed.

This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the strength of association between five categories of syndromes of the DSM-5 and suicidal ideation according to age and sex. From Montreal area, 464 youth aged from 12 to 15 years were met in school setting (237 girls, 227 boys) and 141 adolescents were met in clinical setting (62 girls and 79 boys). Each teenager complete the Dominic Adolescent, a self-report measure to conveniently and quickly garner DSM-5 diagnostic-approximates about frequent mental health problems. Suicidal ideations were found in 8.6% of adolescents in school context and 37.6% in the clinical setting. Results show a strong association between suicide and depression in both samples, regardless of age and gender. In the school sample, depressed adolescents and youth aged 14 and 15 years are more likely to have suicidal thoughts. Moreover, boys with disruptive behaviors and girls with ADHD symptoms have more possibility of having suicidal thoughts. In clinical setting, depression syndrome and substance use are associated to suicidal thoughts. Depression is an important vulnerability factor for both girls and boys regardless of school or clinical sample. The presence of one of those five categories of psychiatric syndromes increases the risk for suicide thoughts in adolescents aged between 12 and 15 years old. Results from this study support the relevance of early identification of DSM-5 syndromes and the importance of early screening among high school students.

This study examines the different strategies implemented by translators to translate, into French, Korean onomatopoeic interjections. Unlike onomatopoeia, an interjection possesses an affect, an intention to communicate (expressive or injunctive) in reaction to a situation experienced. Between emotional manifestation and implicit formulation, their semantic ambiguity does not easily convey their situational value, as it would be commonly understood in the culture of origin. In the absence of equivalent interjections in the target language, translators rely on either simple transliterations of the original Korean interjections or more lengthy/explicit non-interjective reformulations. After defining the framework of our study, we will examine, through extracts from Korean literature, the different strategies that make it possible to translate and transmit in French the expressive value and the emotional charge of these so-called “primary” elements of a language. Finally, we suggest some non-interjective or somatic alternatives making their semantic density perceptible.
