This article introduces a brief history of French language zine culture in Quebec. Building on a study of its institutional and economic framework, it addresses the generic transformations of the zine genre as a medium, in relation to its relationship with politics. Four case studies – Requiem (1974-1979), edited by Norbert Spehner; Yé-yé, journal des musiques d'agrément (1983-1990), edited by Richard Baillargeon; Dirty Plotte (1988-1990), edited by Julie Doucet; and Ce que je sais de moi (2017), authored Shushanna Bikini London – are used to illustrate the transition from a “personalization of politics” to a “politics of shared intimacies”. Changes on the generic, institutional, economic, and technological levels, providing the background and accompanying this transition, crystallize Quebec's zine culture around Montreal's scene. In turn, Montreal's zine scene contributes to redefine zine culture's place in Quebec's cultural field.
