Due to bious foreign testimonies and because those concerned left but very few explicit records, wide gaps remain in our knowledge of Punic religion. Trying to better it, this study purposes to take advantage of Carthage's tophet and thus use all the resources of iconology relying on the theoriticians of this science. It endeavours to define all the processes used in the decoration of stelae, find out automatisms and draw from this analysis reading codes to be applied to some kinds of pictures. Which infine allows some conclusions: the assertion, for instance, that the temple is in the center in the cult of the god or the presumption there must be a rite of introduction as it is shown on the (so-called) stelae depicting the "priest with child".
