By focusing on Thursday, July 31, 1924, this article narrates a polyphony of musical events using two types of sources: Montreal daily newspapers and the ledgers of the recording studio of the Compo company. Through a microhistorical approach, this day serves as a prism to study the diversity of musical events without being confined to usual linguistic or stylistic categorizations. The analysis highlights interactions and social dynamics between different musical styles, artists and communities that are otherwise often neglected or made invisible. This microhistorical narrative of musical life thus produces a decompartmentalized and plural history, enriching our understanding of the history of music in Québec.
