In this article, we demonstrate the importance of problematizing the processes of translating Indigenous literatures into Spanish, in order to maintain the literary posture of their authors in the translated versions. We focus on Natasha Kanapé-Fontaine's poetic writing, and we analyze the textual difficulties we faced when translating a selection of poems from N'entre pas dans mon âme avec tes chaussures (2012) and Bleuets et Abricots (2016) for the bilingual anthology Mujer tierra, mujer poema, recently published in Argentina. These texts underscore some issues linked to the identity of First Peoples in Quebec, leading us to reflect on the creative dimension of Indigenous poetry from the south of the continent, and to initiate intercultural dialogue between productions from different latitudes. In this respect, we emphasize the important role of translation in making little-known literature visible, and in fostering relations between cultures.

This article describes the Awikhiganisaskak project, a collaboration between the Abenaki nation, one of the eleven Aboriginal nations of Quebec, and a number of researchers associated with the Université de Sherbrooke. Intended as an initiative to enhance the documentation of Aboriginal languages and cultures, the first phase of the project focused on the Abenaki language, a member of the Algonquian linguistic family. Faced with the rapid decline of native languages over the course of the 20th century, Abenaki being no exception, various preservation initiatives have been attempted by the nation, mainly through the teaching of the language. The project presented here focuses on the collection and processing of written and oral documentation related to the language. Two examples of the work carried out by the Awikhiganisaskak project are discussed in the article: firstly, the study of the translation into French-Abenaki of an English-Abenaki work entitled New Familiar Abenakis and English Dialogues, by Joseph Laurent (1884) and the creation of an audio recording of the work read by speakers of the language; secondly, the study of the transcription, translation into English and oral recording of Joseph Aubéry's French-Abenaki dictionary (1715) by Étienne (Stephen) Laurent, son of Joseph Laurent. Finally, one of the project's research interests focuses on translation from and into native languages, and attempts to document the many facets of the phenomenon.

AbstractBipolar II (BP II) disorder is a common, recurrent, and disabling psychiatric illness. Individuals suffering from this disorder comprise a large segment of the outpatient mental health treatment population, and yet little is known about how best to manage it. Psychotherapy, although untested in this population, represents a potentially important treatment modality for individuals suffering from this disorder. Because BP II disorder is characterized by subsyndromal, non-psychotic, episodes of mania (hypomania), there are no clear contraindications to the use of psychotherapy as monotherapy in BP II disorder (in contrast to BP I disorder where the risk of mania makes medication the sine qua non of treatment). In addition, unlike medication, psychotherapy has the potential to help patients address the multiple psychosocial problems associated with this chronic illness. Thus, an effective psychotherapy for BP II disorder may provide an appealing alternative for patients, especially for those who prefer to avoid the risks and discomfort associated with current pharmacotherapeutic options. Interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT), a treatment combining a behavioral approach to increasing the regularity of daily routines with interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), has demonstrated efficacy BP I disorder when in combination with medication. The current report gives brief overviews of BP II disorder and IPSRT, describes the process of adapting IPSRT for the treatment of BP II disorder, and then presents a series of vignettes based on our experience using IPSRT as monotherapy for the acute treatment of BP II depression. We argue that IPSRT warrants further systematic study to formally assess its efficacy as a treatment for BP II disorder.

In the lifestyles of teenagers and young adults, the viewing of movies, TV soaps and web series is an important activity. These productions present characters and scripts which illustrate the various problems these populations are facing, among which the consumption of drugs and medicines. To describe the models represented, two seasons of the popular web series Skins produced in Great Britain and a big success in many countries, were analysed using a content analysis based on quantitative and qualitative methodology. The results indicate that the question of illegal and medical drugs is an important topic, with cannabis as the drug most often represented and used by both male and female characters, followed by ecstasy. If the depiction of hard drugs is rare, non-medical use of prescription drugs is well illustrated, in particular with antidepressants and treatments or erectile dysfunction. The web series stage the phases of access to substances, their preparation, their consumption and even their resale, topics treated in a peripheral way in the TV productions of the 1990s. The states of consciousness, from light effects to extreme and dangerous ones are represented, illustrating the variety of contexts and the collective and individual functions of drug use. These substances are not generally the object of a negative evaluation within the story-line, insistance being put rather on their everyday acceptance and their integration in the everyday life of young people, without great risks for the health. It remains important to document the reception of this web series in various national contexts and to understand its influence on the standards of consumption of illegal substances and prescription drugs by adolescents.

The evangelization of Hudson Bay has been well documented through several ethnohistorical sources, but that of Ungava and of neighboring areas stretching as far as Labrador remains unknown. Drawing on Reverend Stewart's diaries, reports and correspondence and a few letters from Reverend E. Hester who joined him in 1911 – most of these documents were published in the Great Britain Messenger – this paper describes the Christianization of this region. The role of shamans and catechists is examined during the first twenty-five years of Reverend Stewart's mission (1899-1918).

How does the law deal with emojis, emoticons, and other digital pictograms that are intended to clarify or nuance a written text devoid of communicative tools like tone, facial expressions or gestures? Drawing on the fields of linguistics, semiology, communication theory and cultural studies, this article undertakes an empirical study of Canadian cases in order to shed light on the various ways in which emojis are conceived (notably from the point of view of international computing norms) and perceived. The article then analyzes the consequences of these findings for the law, particularly in the areas of procedural law, evidence, and legal research methodology.
