This paper explores the past, present, and future of library marketing in the United States. While its foundations were laid more than a century ago, not every library is up-to-speed in its knowledge or practice. There are “Haves” with plenty of space, staff, and money, and “Have Nots” that lack some necessities. In the midst of this uneven landscape, the author discusses the organizations and publications that support it, details the trends in four categories, and lists national campaigns and awards. Special attention is paid to the continuing challenges and the possible future scenarios.

This paper tries to demonstrate that it is possible to set a standardized unified measurement of almost all types of linguistic complexity, in all languages, providing the use of a system of description and interpretation–i.e. the Defining Matrix Analysis (DMA) – which is founded on the remarkable metalinguistic function of natural languages which allow them to self- describe with their most common words through the building of equivalency classes in which the grammatical facts – the main source of complexity – are « uncomplexified » and measured in terms of regular reduction operations.

Greek and other Orthodox travelers to Russia were important and knowledgeable witnesses to Muscovite liturgical singing practices. This article surveys several Greek sources from around 1600: a poem and a memoir by Archbishop Arsenios of Elasson (1550-1626); a poem describing events connected with the False Dmitrii (1606) by Matthaios Koletzides; and a report of the Moscow trip undertaken by Theophanes, Patriarch of Jerusalem (1619). We also consider the lengthy narrative by Paul of Aleppo, who accompanied Patriarch Makarios of Antioch to Moscow (1650s and 1660s). All of these sources provide rich examples of continuing exchanges among Russian and foreign Orthodox singers throughout this period.
