New York, late 1980s, Lower East Side. A group of jazz and improvizational musicians work to revive the klezmer music of their ancestors, of which only shadows remain since the destruction of the Jews of Europe. Under the aegis of John Zorn, they create a torrid community, giving birth to a scene known as Radical Jewish Culture. Today, this revitalized music, intermixed with influences from the Jewish diaspora and New York cosmopolitanism, is undeniably popular in the United States, as well as Europe and Japan. How did these musicians achieve this triumph over oblivion, fanning the ashes of these melodies from the depths of the shtetls back to full flame, making them more contemporary than ever? This article focuses on the genesis of this musical movement, whose history continues to be written.

This article focuses on how Stravinsky circulates in the digital age, specifically in the dissemination of his work on YouTube. The case of The Rite of Spring is at the heart of the study through its use and morphing as a mashup. With this in mind, the study focuses on the way in which Stravinsky's work is valorized in the context of digital transformation, which is reflected in three mashups that are analyzed in greater detail. These mashups highlight the ways in which pre-existing content from two sources is amalgamated in the form of hybridization (the very idea of a mashup), for example in the crossing between Stravinsky and Beyoncé or Steely Dan or Smash Mouth, all unlikely encounters that show an interest in the flagship ballet of the musical avant-garde and the search for stylistic fusion. The originality of the gesture lies in the choice of the Rite of Spring and the ensuing process of desacralization, which is emphasized in the research conclusions.

A brief recall of the main characteristics of heavy metal allows us to postulate the existence of three clearcut categories of concept-albums in this music genre: anthology, geste, epic. Their analysis leads us to examine whether this particular form is intended to unsettle, through intermedial translations, what previously had a definite shape and legitimacy, or, on the contrary, to put order in the chaos of an extreme music.

In the last five years, the Kashtin duo bas enjoyed remarkable success in Québec performing almost exclusively in their mother tongue.TheKashtin phenomenon affords a prime vantage point for surveying the progress of contemporary developments in popular music in Québec, whose complexity and impetus are thus revealed. Are Kashtin's popularity and special place in the Québec context an indication ofnew musical canons and emerging cultures? Posing this question at the outset, this article proceeds to delme some conceptual tools for the critical analysis of changing modes of discourse and changes in the power establishments, within which a redefinition of popular music, and of music in general, is taking shape in Québec.
