At a time when the video game industry is booming in Canada and game studies departments begin to emerge in universities, this article assesses the evolution of video game design theories. These can be considered as the combination of two worlds, design theories and video game studies, a union that seems largely under-examined. Using a theoretical model drawn from design theory, namely “the eclipse of the object,” this article reveals similarities between design and video game design theories. It argues that the parallels that can be drawn between these theories constitute the basis for a shared theoretical outlook. Building on this commonality, this paper concludes with some suggestions concerning research, pedagogy, and the video gaming industry that aim at unifying these two domains.

This article deals with the problem of text and image in contemporary art, as exemplified in a photograph by Jeff Wall called The Storyteller (1986). This image is analysed, taking as reference Manet's Déjeuner sur l'herbe as well as Walter Benjamin's essay of 1936 on the subject of the narrator. The main points in this comparative analysis are the role of the narrator both in text and image, oral tradition versus visual space, the concept of the picture and the tradition of story representation. The author proposes the idea that modernity introduced a major change in the art of storytelling and in the narrative function of image.

The purpose of this article is to assess the evolution of the inherent threats to researchers and their ability to freely conduct independent inquiries which were raised during the 2009 « droit d'enquêter » conference that culminated with the publication of Enquêter : de quel droit ?. Beginning with a survey of the observations offered by colleagues who responded to « Attentats », the invitation to comment from the Paris-based scientific research organization, the Centre nationale de la recherche scientifique (CRNS), I re-examine various issues regarding the legal constraints to research. In particular, I focus on specific forms of heteronomization with which academic inquiry must contend to maintain its independence in order to justify its relevance and legitimacy.

This article exposes elementary school teachers' conceptions of situational problems in mathematics. The analysis of cultural artifacts, a questionnaire, and a semi-structured interview allowed not only to document teachers' conceptions but also to reflect upon the complexity of their transformations with respect to school culture. Four teachers' profiles were highlighted, based on the uniformed vs diverse or uncertain vs assumed characteristics of their conceptions. These results reveal the need to consider the teachers' point of view and their context to aim for fruitful professional development.

The socio-technical instruments for the exploitation of soft skills, in particular of audiences in training, aim to circumvent the value of qualifications and/or technical skills, in favor of characteristics described as deeper for the individual, whose socio-professional ordeals are convertible into resources. These instruments are not free of paradoxes: by only partially freeing themselves from the effects of educational capital, they take the risk of an invisibilization of social inequalities. Moreover, if they turn away from the symbolic value of structures in favour of the analysis of behaviours and lived experience, they do not necessarily question the hierarchies in the social world. There remains an ambivalence in the construction of the relationship to oneself between emancipation from social norms linked to academic excellence and/or professional success, and weakening of the critique of educational and practical production processes by the individualization of standards of achievement.

Little studied until now, the history of the Société des Dix from 1965 to 2000 requires an analysis that demonstrates the challenges faced by a voluntary association or small elective academy to ensure its survival. During this period, the Société des Dix was faced with the aging and gradual disappearance of the 1935 founding generation. In addition, the centralized mode of management in the hands of the perpetual secretary, set against a greater distribution of responsibilities, gave rise to a serious internal conflict, finally resolved in 1970. However, the Société had to solve a more important long-term problem: finding a publisher who could ensure the durability of the Cahiers des Dix, its main public showcase. This issue was finally resolved in 1989, allowing new generations of members to continue the work of the founders.

Our contribution aims to identify the emotional dimensions brought into play in students during the involvement of experienced experts in social work training. We conducted an unsystematic review of scientific and gray literature. In addition, we rely on empirical data that comes from a secondary analysis of individual interviews with students and experienced experts who have been stakeholders in various pedagogical practices involving users at the School of Social Work of the University of Sherbrooke. Four emotional dimensions have thus been identified: emotional reciprocity, emotional intelligence, emotional engagement as well as emotional impact. These notions allow us to reflect on the contribution of initial training in social work in a context of the involvement of experienced experts.

In the autumn of 2021, psychoeducators will celebrate 20 years since their integration into Quebec's professional services. This defining moment was a long time in the making. Among other effects, the consolidation of psychoeducators into a professional order has led to the establishment of structures of access, supervision, and discipline in the exercise of the profession. This article looks at this history in the context of the reform of mental health and human relations professions that has been ongoing since 2009 (PL21). After detailing the main stages of the development of the Order of Psychoeducators (OPPQ), some observations on the evolution of the professional practice are discussed along with their potential impacts on the future activities of the order.
