The program Observation of teacher practices in relation to pupil learning (OPERA research programme) was implemented in Burkina Faso from 2013 to 2015. Analyses of teaching practices in the first phase were based on the observations of 90 grade 2 and grade 6 primary school teachers and of a sub-sample of 41 teachers in the second phase. Two types of profiles emerged from the analysis of the data collected from the 41 teachers observed during both phases: 1) profiles of "teaching-centered" and "learning-centered" representations of the teaching-learning process; 2) actual teaching practice profiles revealing a positive relational profile, three pedagogical profiles and three didactical profiles. After presenting them, we discuss these profiles in relation to teacher education programs. It appears that there is no such thing as a pure or definitive profile of practice; teachers adapt according to the context. Nevertheless, the didactic domain seems often less invested than the other two; which reflects the orientation of the country's teacher preparation programs, i.e., pedagogy by objectives.

This paper aims to initiate francophone readers to the research program of international historical sociology (ihs) and to the theory of uneven and combined development (ucd) as an attempt at a transdisciplinary synthesis between historical sociology and international relations (ir). This attempt will be analyzed through the study of revolutions as a research object representative of the epistemic break between the two disciplines. We will deconstruct the transdisciplinary project of ucd in order to show how it falls short of the initial objectives of ihs in terms of the sociologization and historicization of ir. We will then try to reactivate these objectives and reformulate the interdisciplinary relation between sociology and international relations through a historicist and epistemological reflection on the basis of the theory of social property relations.

The objectives of this article are to examine the geographical reasoning of Grade 9 students through the creation of narrative maps on Google Maps; to explore the students' Google Maps skills; to estimate their appreciation of the use of narrative maps in the geography course and to evaluate the quality of the texts they produce in these narrative maps. Through an exploratory and developmental research method, the narrative maps are examined using analysis grids (geographical reasoning and textual coherence). The results indicate that the written texts are essentially descriptive and demonstrate geographical relational reasoning with attempts at interpretation and explanation limited to the visual site. While the students adapt their vocabulary to the communication context, their descriptive texts seem to lack macro-structural coherence. However, the students participating in the study seem to develop new technical skills on Google Maps and appreciate the narrative map being used in the geography course.

Homophobic bullying, which can target students of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, results in psychosocial and educational consequences for students. School psychologists, experts in mental health and child development, can intervene in situations of bullying and violence. While several studies have assessed the nature of homophobic acts and their effects on students, few have examined the roles of school psychologists concerning homophobic bullying. This study explores the self-reported experiences of thirty school psychologists on their roles in countering homophobic bullying. Results show that consultation is a central component of the school psychologist's developed strategies in addressing this problem. Also, participants report that they lack professional experience and training regarding homophobic bullying because this subject is rarely taught during their graduate studies. They recommend that school psychologists become more involved in intervention and awareness promotion in regards to homophobic bullying.

AbstractThe heuristic suitability of dominant Western geopolitical approaches to the Ukrainian crisis is examined through an examination of their epistemological foundations. The most influential discourses today, essentially culturalist, derive from widely disputed paradigms of International Relations and have trouble overcoming the methodological biases and limitations of realist, statist, or neorealist approaches. Deconstruction of the various models reveals the self-same ethnocentric and prescriptive notion of a world order that serves as a foundation for a full-blown “hegemonistic consensus.” Such a vision of international relations however, structured around the assumption of u.s. pre-eminence, is unable to address the complexity of a conflict reducible neither to age-old Russian imperialism nor to a return of the Cold War.

Les Correspondances d’Eastman, a literary festival held in the Estrie region of Quebec, offers a varied program that includes public readings, author interviews, literary performances, and writing workshops. The festival specifically aims to offer visitors the opportunity to write letters in writing gardens laid out by the citizens of Eastman village. On the one hand, by encouraging all visitors to write, the festival encourages the democratization of literature and creative writing. On the other hand, the festival supports the professionalization of recognized writers by compensating them for their participation in activities and offering them a platform to promote their works and increase their visibility. Based on the tensions underlying these two aspects of the festival, this article aims to explore the roles festivalgoers play in Les Correspondances d’Eastman and to compare them with those of professional writers. The analysis will focus primarily on the interactions between visitors and professional writers, which constantly oscillate between proximity, intimacy, and distance.

We conducted a systematic analysis of conceptions of Alzheimer's disease in the French specialized social workers press between 1990 and 2014, and compared these results to recent studies on autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the same field. Analysis of discourse about Alzheimer's disease, and more generally on mental and psychosocial disorders in the specialized social workers press shows that social factors highly involved in these pathologies are never presented, as they are widely argued in the international literature, and can be subject to specific socio-educational policies and practices. Most ways of Alzheimer'disease presented to French social workers belong to the therapeutic sphere, and reveal a growing medicalization of social work, allowing us to question the practice, institutional and training issues.

This article considers the under-representation of trans persons who specialize in trans issues employed as professors in Canadian universities, with particular attention paid to the case of departments of gender and feminist studies. The research question is : what are the systemic barriers preventing the displacement of the cis-centric subject from the center of francophone Canadian academic feminism, and contributing to the exclusion of trans persons ? This article analyzes these obstacles. The first part demonstrates the presence of cisgenderism in teaching and research, creating a glass ceiling for trans persons in academia. The second studies the absence of trans issues in feminist francophone teaching and research, despite the interest of students in these issues. The third part employs a transfeminist approach to trouble the cisgender normativity of gender and feminist studies and the disciplinary divisions that marginalize trans persons in academia.
