This paper focuses on a case of coastal erosion, taking place on the beaches of the National park of the archipelago of la Maddalena, in Sardinia (Mediterranean Sea), in the middle of an internationally renowned touristic area. Conducting fieldwork here makes it possible to investigate the relations occurring between environmental conservation and economical development issues, in a specific context, at the intersection of socio-ecological dynamics crossing multiple scales and levels. Thanks to ethnographical observation, experiences of environmental conservation can be analyzed as the outcome of adaptation processes, either to paradigms coming from the global arena, either to local agendas. We are interrogating viewpoints and priorities expressed by a plurality of actors, involved in coastal spaces regulation. Those persons are also deeply embedded in socio-historical contexts, that we must consider in order to grasp present complexities. Proposing to look attentively at different knowledges and environments at stake, some anthropological and sociological perspectives help analyzing environmental controversies, without trying to drive them to a univocal axiological frame. Finally, I invite to acknowledge this case as an opportunity to think at political dimensions of environmental uncertainties, at the interface between socio-ecological phenomena, vaguenesses coming from scientific knowledges, policymaking, and politico-economic and historical issues.

In Canada, the multi-barrier approach allows for a multi-dimensional water management, using tools and practices to ensure safe water, from source (lake, river, etc.) to citizens' taps. As one of these barriers, source water protection (SWP) seeks to anticipate or reduce natural and anthropogenic risks that could alter the sources. In this context, the Government of Quebec has adopted the Water Withdrawal and Protection Regulation (WWPR), which reinforces SWP in Quebec. However, the implementation of the WWPR implies the development of action plans that require the acquisition of a multidisciplinary knowledge on water quality, quantity and on the natural and socio-economic components of the territory. This paper aims at providing a diagnostic portrait of the implementation of SWP in Quebec, in order to identify the decision-making process, its stakeholders, and the knowledge generated and mobilized for decision-making. This portrait is based on an online survey conducted between November 2018 and March 2019. The qualitative and quantitative analyses of 208 responses revealed that SWP implementation is currently characterized by a great diversity of the stakeholders involved, tasks and knowledge created, and a strong inter-organizational dynamism. However, it is noted its decision-making process becomes less inclusive as it moves through the implementation stages, that knowledge is sometimes redundant and that there are many knowledge transfer issues (access, quantity or quality of knowledge) between stakeholders.

We asked Mrs. Marie-Hélène Parizeau to allow us to quote from her introduction to bio-ethics, included in the thesis for a mastership submitted to the University of Montreal. We thought that the subject was of such interest that we would like to make an article from the subject matter of the thesis. Mrs. Parizeau looks at euthanisia, in vitro conception and other subjects which pose serious challenges to our evolving society.

In Georges Gurvitch's analysis of social reality, he considered that concepts like social law and social rights, normative facts, and transpersonalism demonstrated the existence of a pre-existing legal order in social environments. He argues that groups and communities of various kinds can regulate themselves without resorting to domination and that law can be produced through cooperation, communion and solidarity. His methodology was highly interdisciplinary, bringing together sociology, philosophy and the science of law to go beyond what he termed individual law. Gurvitch used this pluralism as a critical method for dislodging principles that no longer corresponded to social reality and had become dogmatized in the science of law. This critical approach is an appeal to the science of law to account for social phenomena, such as demands for new rights, that can lead to legislative reformation. In contrast to legal positivism, this broad view of the law calls for a greater role for both critical thinking and interdisciplinarity in legal education.
