Tomorrow, today's students will have to face the socio-environmental challenges of this new century. To prepare them to become actors of sustainability transitions, the graduation projects assigned to them have numerous benefits, but their interest can be further enhanced. This article examines how Edgar Morin's complex thinking and its intrinsic transdisciplinarity can enrich the practice of graduation projects in higher education. Four graduation projects from recent years are re-examined in light of the literature on education for sustainability, interdisciplinarity and complex thinking. As a result of this work, we present a theoretical proposal and four practical proposals aimed at better training future actors of sustainability transitions.

SummaryIn this article, the authors present the activity “Teaching from a cultural perspective”, part of the undergraduate program in secondary level teaching at the University of Sherbrooke. This was implemented within the frame of an innovative teaching project and is currently part of development research. This activity, centred on the integration of disciplines, demonstrates how to implement the ministerial objectives relating to the development of professionalism and the cultural teaching approach. The authors describe the context, the foundations, and the objectives, followed by the organisation and models of professional situations provided to students of French, language of instruction. Excerpts illustrate how to develop cultural competence. Finally, some remaining questions provide a conclusion.

Today, interdisciplinarity lies more in his proclaimed speech than in its effective implementation. Observation shows that scientists or technicians often hide behind the disciplinary dogmatism to hinder the connexion between interdisciplinary skills. Yet the fact is that anthropology does not belong to anthropologists, as well as other disciplines do not belong to those who think of themselves as the tenants of their discipline or fully identify themselves to it. This contribution is less about the mediation between disciplins than about the dialogue between scientists on complex objects, mainly the land issue in African development. The reflexion is therefore refocused on the question of transformation of African societies in the process of profound changes with the problem of land issue, which reappears in the development process as a complex scientific instrument going far beyond the concern of a single discipline and of a sole continent. Beyond the need for dialogue between scientists, the text also addresses the problem of establishing a model of organizational and functional structure in order to promote the articulation of areas of scientific and technical skills able to respond effectively to Africa development issue. In this concern, the organization of a competence pole on the model of university hospitals in France could be considered as relevant for structuring the land issue and the natural resources management for development in Africa with the help of interdisciplinarity.

By arguing that an interdisciplinary approach must be chosen whenever an international phenomenon touches on separate disciplines, this article illustrates such a necessity by using the case of the analysis of the evolving codification of foreign investors' responsibilities. A literature review demonstrates that the analysis of this phenomenon necessitates taking into account the content and the application of international instruments as well as relations of power between the actors involved. Given that such explanatory factors are respectively the objects of analysis of International Law and International Relations, this analysis requires an interdisciplinary approach and ultimately contributes to consolidate the relevance of International Studies.
