The excavation of an early La Tène settlement at Guilberville in the south of the Manche department has revealed the practically levelled remains of a small middle Neolithic II site. Among the lithic and pottery finds, a piece from the neck of a beaker with an internal handle adds to the distribution map of a type of vessel which has until now only been found in Calvados (5 specimens) and Morbihan (1 specimen). Isotopic dating sets the series in the second quarter of the 4th millennium, contemporary with the passage graves of Lower Normandy.

Abstract The inventory of megaliths in Lot-et-Garonne, explored since the 19th century, reveals a less important corpus than in the neighbouring départements of Gironde, Dordogne, Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne. Nevertheless, the architectural diversity of these constructions — including gallery graves of the Aquitaine and Gironde type, several menhirs and what is probably a cromlech (one of a the rare attested in south-western France) — associated with the high quality of the artefacts they contained, confers evident interest on the megaliths of Lot-et-Garonne. Furthermore, the gathering of the traditions and popular folklore surrounding these monuments provides precious historiographie data on the megalithic phenomenon.

ABSTRACT The number 3 dolmen of Soulobres, and the archeological material which has been saved, demonstrate a large utilization, beginning with the group of Les Treilles and ending with the gallo- roman period. This monument's major interest is its barrow, whose prehistorical structure has been brought to light, with an addition of ceramic mass disposed at its surface during its funeral utilization.

The western portion of central France, bordered by the Loire River to the north and the Gironde to the south, possesses a wealth of highly diverse megalithic monuments : long barrows containing a chamber- tomb or one or more passage-graves ; circular or rectangular mounds containing a single chamber-tomb with a circular chamber (Atlantic type) or with a rectangular chamber (Angoumoisin type) ; pear-shaped barrows covering Angevin chamber-tombs... Many of these monuments have been transformed to add one or more burial chambers, thereby significantly altering the typological classifications previously established. Further complicating the situation, the monuments have sometimes been obstructed, giving rise to a structure different from that of the original one covered over, and the chambers have been reoccupied, leaving behind more or less visible traces.

ABSTRACT Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, the megalithic site of Changé, Saint-Piat, Eure-et-Loir, has always interested archeologists. Its study was marked by the coming of famous prehistoric researchers together with the enthusiasm of a few local excavaters. The history of its study has followed the development of ideas, excavation technics and knowledge about prehistory and megalithic monuments in particular. Many unpublished documents make of that study a good example of the afore-mentioned development.
