The study of religious schools and colleges in Spain is lacking in sources that explain the school and extracurricular activities that they carried out throughout the 20th century. The so-called Memorias escolares (Yearbooks) provide important information on these topics. The first objective of this article is to present this documentary source published by an important group of schools and colleges of education controlled by male religious orders and congregations in Spain. The second is to analyze the function of these annual publications, where story telling are narrated, prepared by the centers themselves and with great information on their activities. Third, we want to highlight the role of yearbooks and their relationship with the construction of the memory of students, through editors, photographs or their professional orientations. Therefore, yearbooks are an important documentary source for knowing not only school practices, but also the link they have with students to shape an identity and build a memory for the future.

A major cultural event in Acadia, organized every five years since 1994, the CMA aims to strengthen the ties between Acadia and its diaspora. It offers participants the opportunity to enjoy identity experiences, to have meaningful encounters, particularly in the context of family reunions, and to discuss Acadia and its diaspora. Our study focused on the meaning of the participant's experiences, particularly in terms of identity.

Portuguese Manoel de Oliveira was the dean of directors until his recent passing at the venerable age of 106. Following a very early interest in theater and in the exact opposite of the realistic depictions taught at the Actors Studio, he made movies from selected literary works by such Portuguese authors as Camilo Castelo Branco (a 19th century novelist), José Régio and Raul Brandão (two 20th century writers). Manoel de Oliveira adapted the latter's O Gebo e a Sombra (Gebo and the Shadow)and presented it as a non-competitive entry in the Venice Film Festival in 2012. He also turned into movies selected works by such French literary luminaries as Flaubert (as recast by novelist Agustina Bessa-Luís), Madame de Lafayette or Claudel. This essay will focus on his French cinematic adaptation of Claudel's play titled The Satin Slipper. The seven-hour long movie is rather faithful to the original text and its premiere screening took place in a (non-movie) theater in 1985. This essay will delve into the transition from the stage to a non-realistic screen world that depicts every single artefact, trick and convention known to stage actors.

AbstractThis article proposes both a feminist and narratological analysis of Laure Conan's three historical novels: Â l'oeuvre et à l'épreuve (1891), L'oublié (1905) and La sève immortelle (1925). These three texts offer a feminist perspective of the epic of French-Canadian colonisation. Indeed, from the first to the third novel, the "masculinizing" narrative of the conquest is slowly erased as the sublimated feminine essence (the Virgin) is replaced by actual female figures, both historic and fictive. In reconfiguring the notions of courage and heroism, Laure Conan manages to nuance the established and accepted history of New France.

The use of the language spoken by young people from French sensitive urban areas is considered a major stylistic feature of banlieue literature. Hence, studying the translation of Beur novels also implies studying this linguistic variety. This case study considers lexical items used by youth from the French banlieue in the novel Kiffe kiffe demain by Faïza Guène in its Arabic, Dutch and Spanish translations. Specifically, the strategies used to translate 62 passages that include 21 words belonging to the youth language of the banlieue will be examined. Our research shows that even though there is a great variety of strategies applied by the translators in the three languages, the general tendency is to standardize these specific lexical items by using either formal, informal or neutral equivalents. Surprisingly, sociolinguistic equivalence is not a common translation choice. Non-translation is a common strategy retained for dealing with almost exclusively the Arabic words. Arabic and Spanish translators do not resort to additions whereas the Dutch translator does. Finally, we did not find much consistency in the linguistic procedures studied and the strategies used to translate them.
