AbstractIn a context of openness and regional integration, Luang Namtha province is the epitome of the challenges Laos faces today. For the past ten years or so, the region has been experiencing major changes in connection with the opening of the North-South corridor between China and Thailand. The Master Plan promoted by the ADB constitutes the cornerstone of the economic Quadrangle, the cross border growth area. The Lao government's goal is, on the one hand, to turn the country's mountainous outskirts into large free-trade areas and, on the other, to strengthen the emergence of the modern nation-state by transferring the mountain populations of Laos to the plains so as to better control the land and its resources. Essentially, the economic corridor provides a new major access route for the Lao and foreign investors looking to farm new lands, mine ore and produce hydroelectricity. The territory comprising Luang Namtha province, together with its local populations, have been forced to adapt to radical changes resulting from the central government's new strategy, and are undergoing in-depth transformations that result in conflicts around social and environmental issues.

This article aims at better understanding the identity construction process of youths from immigrant background in Montreal (N=37) in the course of educational transitions, from primary school to university. The analysis of their life stories, with a constructivist theoretical framework, underlines the construction of a strong boundary between “francophones québécois” and “youth from immigrant background” at high school. However, when they experience postsecondary institutions, youth revisit this boundary and consider new feelings of belonging. Data analysis shows that identity pathways at the postsecondary level are different according to the linguistic sector (French or English university) the youths attended. In conclusion, research and avenues for intervention are suggested.

Based on research about perinatal period made among South Asian women recently immigrated in Montreal, this article shows the connections between migration project and perinatal experience. Following the analysis of 39 life stories constructed within an ethnographic field lasting 13 months, we identified 4 different patterns, highlighting first the variability within perinatal experiences and migration projects. In a deeper reflection, we try to demonstrate, on the one hand, that some factors within the migration project, above all the initial motivation for migration, are part of the perinatal experiences and, on the other hand, we present the answers formulated by the women to deal with it.

Without denying the importance of economies, the author underlines the necessity of analyzing the significance of Asia-Pacific as a political entity. The member States of the economics-oriented international organizations use the economic image of the region to gain political leverage at a regional or global level. This leads to an interrogation on the reality of « Asia-Pacific as a coherent political entity. The international relations in this area of the world also show an original pattern, insofar as the leadership of the « great powers » is questioned by « middle-sized » powers. The dialogue on collective security began recently and is a long way from achieving peace and stability in the region. It nevertheless shows the willingness of the Asia-Pacific States to overcome the difficulties of the post Cold War new world order
