In France, during the interwar years, literary reporting was a poetic matrix taking many forms, from daily newspapers to weekly magazines and books, and reaching a very wide public. It involved writers and novelists and served as a crossroads between journalism and literature. Of interest is the interaction with first-person novels since both are contemporary narratives where reality is filtered through the voice and conscience of a subjectivity regardless of their differing production goals and contexts. First, reportage will be examined as self-writing that defines a form of journalistic autofiction echoing some issues of the novels that are part of what Jacques Dubois called “subjective realism” – the Proustian work. Reporters Georges Le Fèvre and Maryse Choisy both present a subject in crisis that questions identity from the autobiographic experience provided by undercover reportage. Second, Louis-Ferdinand Céline's Voyage au bout de la nuit is analyzed as a subversion of the main themes and recurring motifs of reportage, as theorized by Paul Aron. The protagonist Bardamu strikes us as a “bad” reporter who refuses the heroic gesture of his media double as well as the patriotic, pro-colonial discourse and picturesque representation of geographic and social exotism that the reportage offers the press readership.

Greimas and Courtés developed the square of veridiction to help the reader to study the dynamics of true/false in a text. They identified four veridictory modalities: true is what has both being and appearance, secret is what has being and non-appearance, lie is what has appearance and non-being, false is what has both non-being and non-appearance. In this article, with the help of the square of veridiction, we try to see how the characters of Genesis 42-44 relate to the truth. This study shows that truth is difficult to grasp. A step taken towards the truth can fall into a lie, while a deceitful word can help to bring out the truth. One can approach the truth while remaining in the position of falsehood or one can leave the position of falsehood without entering the truth. As for concealment, it can have a double facet: one can hide in order to lie or one can disguise oneself in order to allow the truth to be heard.

The novel Machin la Hernie by the Congolese writer Sony Labou Tansi relates the story of the dictator Martillimi Lopez, alias « Machin la Hernie ». Sexual abuses of the sadistic despot kill women because of their extrem violence, so much so that we could find echoes of the Sade's novel Les Cent Vingt Journées de Sodome. However, the two writers don't write sexuality in the same way : the immersion into obscenity is performed by Sade's lapidary sentences, while in Sony's novel, is produced by the hernious phrases. Therefore the syntax stretches and grows, as to grab all humans and things around the dictator. The devouring potentate of the dictator can be understood as an extension of sadism, according to Dany-Robert Dufour who establishes a link between sexual hybris and liberalism theory, based on the desire to relish and possess the world.
