On the centennial of Émile Zola's death, this article wants to renew, in it's own way, the tribute long ago accomplished by Ferdinand Chastanet, the author of the first dictionary of the Rougon-Macquart, published in 1901. He suggests an abridged dictionary that would bring together all the characters created by Zola. They are not placed in alphabetical order, but rather in sequences according to their social or psychological profiles. Including Les Rougon-Macquart, this work starts from Zola's early novels and continues to Évangiles. However it does not include Contes and Théâtre.

Throughout the XXth century, the relationship between theatre and politics in Latin America has been consistent, especially through the deliberate connection of many theater groups with left-wing ideologies and movements. In the XXIst century, and particularly in the case of Colombia, other ways of understanding politics are demanding a place on stage. Performance thus seems to give theatre different possibilities for understanding and addressing new political questions. This article examines some Colombian plays in light of the relationship between theatre and performance and some of the themes that bring them together, such as the portrayal of reality on stage and, especially, the role of victims of the Colombian armed conflict.

In the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca, Mexico), there are people called muxes, a term that refers to both “homosexual” men and transgender women with sui generis characteristics. This article explores the current transformations of muxe ways of being. By focusing on the gender configuration elaborated by muxes—largely based on sex roles—as well as on the ways it is sometimes subverted, I was able to observe a growing adherence of young muxes to conventional gender models. In order to understand these changes, I will replace them in the history of the muxes' struggle for social recognition of their collective identity articulating regional identity processes, LGBT+ activism, local festive registers and the HIV/AIDS crisis. I will then examine the economic constraints on modes of being muxe. Finally, I will study the role of the categories used by muxes to designate themselves in this process. Far from opposing each other, vernacular and Anglo-Saxon terminologies allow muxes to inscribe themselves in a global movement while claiming their cultural particularism. However, their uses take different forms that open the way to as many potential trajectories for the becoming of muxe modes of being.

This article looks at the māhū, raerae, and trans women in Tahiti (French Polynesia). Based on interviews conducted as part of an ethnographical study, it explores the articulation between gender identity and sexuality. These three categories constitute variations of the feminization process of Polynesians assigned male at birth. The article begins by presenting the three figures and their differences, while insisting on the porosity of the categories. It then argues that the logic of distinction underlies self-identification as “trans”. Secondly, the article analyzes the sexualization of masculine men by māhū/raerae/trans women, and vice versa. It appears that for the interviewees who identify to one of these categories, sexuality with masculine men contributes to the feminization of the self.

In 2009, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar directed the short film The Anthropophagous Counselor (La concejala antropófaga), a humorous teaser for the drama Broken Embraces (Los abrazos rotos), released the same year. The title of this film reveals a grotesque approach to the body through the character of Chon, an extravagant city councilwoman: this article precisely proposes to pay particular attention to the literal and metaphorical declensions of the cannibal act. The aim is to understand the filmic narrative as an autonomous unit, with its own internal mechanisms, as well as the creative autophagy that links this short film to the rest of Almodóvar's filmography. The study of the dynamics of staging and the networks of interpretation established by the dialogues will allow to determine to what extent anthropophagy, sex and politics combine to forge an eminently carnivalesque figure, placed at the service of a celebration of the materiality of the body and of a biting political satire.

In a 2008 interview, the philosopher Adriana Cavarero underscored the value of working « from patriarchal stereotypes » and of resignifying these to feminist ends. In this article, the author analyses how this method of resignification unfolds in the book Inclinations, where Cavarero reappropriates the stereotypical figure of the sacrificial mother in order to interrogate the myth of the self-sufficient subject. The article is dedicated to examining the heuristic and feminist potential of this inclined maternal subject. While Cavarero accords insufficient significance to the ambivalence and negative affects that inevitably accompany caregiving, the author of the article nonetheless argues that Cavarero's theory of inclination – specifically, the praise of support, relationality and asymmetry found therein – is a powerful tool for rethinking the concept of resilience.

In this article, which focuses on the Greek version of Sir 26.19-21, the author seeks to answer the following questions. Who is hidden behind the word allotriois in v. 19? Adulterous women, prostitutes, or foreign women? How should we understand the metaphor in v. 20? As this metaphor is unique in the Septuagint, should we see in it the trace of a Greek influence? What type of relationship between man and woman does this metaphor imply? In short, this article aims to show that the agricultural metaphor is a hermeneutic key to understanding the man-woman relationship in Ben Sira 26.19-21.

In terms of people with disabilities advocating for their sexual rights, in 2011 the French government took a stand on the issue of sexual accompaniment (practice also known as sexual assistance). Discussions taking place within political bodies and in the media continue to be stimulated by moral judgments, however without explaining the lower frequency of socio-gendered relationships. They are simply recorded, objectified and deplored. This article proposes an in depth look into the debate, not by questioning the issue of sexual needs or the humanization of people with disabilities, but by analyzing the reasons for a difference in the frequency of socio-gendered relationships. Is there one (or more) social casualties or can this phenomenon be explained solely by bodily differences?
