Background. Use of performance-enhancing drugs by young adults is a growing concern in public health, particularly for academic and sport organizations, postsecondary institutions and health authorities.Methods. A sample of 469 students between 18 and 24 years of age completed a survey on use of alcohol, tobacco and doping products and motivations for these practices. Multiple logistic regressions have been used to study associations between use of these products and socio-economic and academic variables.Results. Three quarters of students had consumed at least one doping product in the last year, other that alcohol, to improve physical or intellectual performance. This includes cannabis (25,0%), energy drinks (38,0%), protein and creatine supplements (22,0 %) and caffeine pills (13,0%). Findings demonstrate that students participating in league sports are more likely to consume alcohol and cannabis than students not in a league sport. Associations exist between ethnolinguistic group and use of alcohol, caffeine pills, energy drinks, as well as alcohol and energy drink mixes and alcohol and drug mixes. Most common motivations for use of these products are to reduce stress and stay awake.Conclusion. Prevention strategies are needed, targeting students according to ethnolinguistic origins, as practices differ among the diverse student populations in Canadian universities.

This article follows the changes in the ideologies that guided the governmental services for troubled children. They are placed in parallel with the evolution of the discipline of psychoeducation and the training of these professionals, particularly at the School of Psychoeducation of the Université de Montréal. Quebec parliament adopted in 1869 two laws, one on reform and one on industrial schools, as did many eastern states in the US; the reform doctrine was launched for troubled children. Women and men that were Catholic religious operated all these schools that were created until the Second World War. During the 1950-1960 some of these schools adopted the doctrine of the scientific re-education that was inspired by psychodynamic theory and its application by followers to institutional treatment of maladaptive children. Some of these centers in Québec developed a three years in-service training that is regarded as the classical psychoeducation approach. Twenty years later, the Université de Montréal introduced an undergraduate program in psychoeducation. It now offers master and doctoral curriculums. During the 1970, in Québec as in North America and Europe, the doctrines of desinstitutionalization and heterogeneous services and clinical approaches became dominant. It had major impacts on the training program and research agenda at the School of psychoeducation. Particularly, it involved a clear move from delinquency and problem behavior during adolescence toward a broader psychopathology perspective of children and adolescents and from a psychodynamic orientation toward a cognitive-behavioral perspective. Finally, it is argued that during the 2000, the profession of psychoeducator and its training became more and more constrained by legal, organizational, professional and scientific controls. All of these successive changes to this discipline since the 1960s lead to conclude that the classic psychoeducation is a discipline in dissipation.

The population of students with disabilities in higher education has grown significantly, accentuated by the massive influx of students with emerging disabilities (SWED: learning disabilities, mental health disabilities and developmental disabilities). From a sociological perspective, this article focuses on access to university resources and the factors that influence access to master's and doctoral programs for SWEDs. It is based on a secondary analysis of a Canadian survey. SWEDs have less access to certain university resources compared to their peers with physical disabilities (SWPD) or without disabilities (SWoD). Three factors that could potentially facilitate (positive conversion factors) or hinder (negative conversion factors) access to resources were considered. For example, satisfaction with research leadership, satisfaction with faculty relationships, and satisfaction with information about the availability of financial support were found to facilitate access to university resources for the entire student population.

Using a descriptive approach, this article aims to describe parents’ experiences supporting their children with diverse needs in elementary or high school. Based on a network analysis of responses to an electronic survey completed by 408 parents, the main results revealed that the number of diagnoses reported by some parents in response to their child’s needs is significant, ranging from two to seven. Furthermore, though most parents say that they are generally satisfied with the support their child receives at school, others reported communication difficulties with school stakeholders. These findings raise questions about the persistence of the medicalization of children's difficulties and how demobilizing this approach can be for parents regarding the support they provide to their children.

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): Internet, social networks, mobile phones) is widespread among students. We propose to make an inventory of relations between students and ICTs under two opposite axes: the psychopathological axis and the "resources" axis. On one hand, are identified the pathologies related to the use of these media (problematic use and addictions - including pornography, cyber harassment) in terms of frequency and comorbidities. On the other hand, we take stock of ICT-based devices for resources, help and care: from immersion in virtual reality to information and prevention sites, as well as video-games mediations and online psychotherapies.
