When analyzed, the currently used word «diorama» appears to cover a whole range of various museographical devices which have in common to place, in an exhibit, images that refer to reality. For this reason, such practices can be called «analogical museography» and its main devices be described — the panorama, the actual diorama, the wild life scènes, the period room, the streetscape, and the ecosystem. Studying these analogical museographies leads to reflection on how the exhibit presentation becomes autonomous from the collections, andfrom the way they are studied. We offer a typology which distinguishes between exhibitions with an exogenous logic — cognitive or situational — and exhibitions with an endogenous logic — thematical, narrative, or conclusive. Analogical museographies takepart in a dynamic of démocratisation, which is willing to lead ail audience and territories into the muséum.
