The diversification of direct investment flows and the rebalancing in favor of emerging markets increase the heterogeneity of environments faced by companies at the international scale. Thus comes back with strength the question of the need to take account of specific local conditions, even when the company seeks to promote a global approach of markets. Structures, organization, coordination and control mechanisms, as the article investigates, are considerably affected.

How do organizations innovate to respond to emerging market issues? Building on a multiple-case research design, we study four cases of innovation in the Indian insurance industry. In the first stage of our analysis, we identify seven innovation processes: Demystification, technologization, bundlization, indigenization, retailization, commoditization and segmentation. In the second stage, we find that these seven processes serve as generic responses to three typical issues: management of meanings and values, accessibility and affordability that firms face in emerging markets. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of innovation processes in emerging markets.

In this paper, using single-country firm-level corruption data, we analyze the effect of corruption on foreign wholly-owned subsidiary survival in an emerging country. Applying an event history analysis to a population of 3 483 wholly-owned subsidiaries in Indonesia over a 33-year period, we test the influence of bribes and indirect taxes on survival. Results show that corruption moderates the hazard rate for young subsidiaries, but this corruption effect disappears for older ones.

This research aims to analyze the influence of country risk and cultural distance on entry mode and control of SMEs over their subsidiaries. Two variables reflecting the entry mode were used : type of implantation (wholly-owned subsidiaries and international joint venture) and expatriation practices. To carry out this study, an online survey was conducted through a database constructed by ourselves and consists of 2526 French SMEs located abroad as subsidiaries. Our contribution shows that the country risk and cultural distance associated with the form of the subsidiary located abroad, but do not influence practices of expatriation.

This article investigates the relationship between innovation and internationalization in young entrepreneurial firms. Based on data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and the World Bank for 64 countries during the 2001-2008 period, this study demonstrates that young entrepreneurial firms involved in product and/or process innovation are more likely to be internationalized. Moreover, the results of our study reveal that the impact of innovation is greater for product innovation than for process innovation and for high-income countries than for low- or middle-income countries.
