Le Parlement « rapaillé » : la méthodologie de la reconstitution des débats

Résumé

Entrepris dans les années 1970, le programme de reconstitution des débats parlementaires québécois antérieurs à 1963 est maintenant une réalité. Au fil des années, une équipe d'historiens de la Bibliothèque de l'Assemblée nationale du Québec a mis au point une méthode originale, adaptée à ce type de restauration forcément partielle d'une source écrite. Le nombre et la variété des sources, la diversité des styles, leur connotation politique, la sélection et les liens syntaxiques pour produire un texte cohérent et lisible ont nécessité une approche critique et une grande rigueur méthodologique. Arrivé à terme plus de 30 ans après son ouverture, le chantier de la reconstitution des débats représente une véritable aventure historiographique.

Abstract

« Gleanings » for a Parliament. The methodology of Parliamentary Proceedings reconstitution

Begun during the 1970s, the project to reconstitute the parliamentary debates in Quebec before 1963 has today become a reality. During this period a team of historians at the Library of the National Assembly of Quebec developed an original method of research, adapted, but necessarily imperfect, to this type of restoration of a written source. The number and variety of sources, the diversity of style, their political implications, and the selection and syntactic links necessary to produce a coherent and readable text have required a critical approach and much methodological rigour. Completed more than 30 years after it began, the work to reconstitute the debates now appears as a true historiographical adventure.
