Identité urbaine, identité migrante

Résumé

La littérature joue un rôle majeur dans le travail d’imaginer, dire et faire la ville. L’écriture migrante permet de voir, de l’intérieur, le processus d’acculturation, la construction de l’identité migrante et de l’identité urbaine. Après une réflexion sur les concepts d’« identité migrante », d’« identité urbaine » et d’« écritures migrantes », la littérature migrante de plusieurs espaces francophones est analysée et plus particulièrement l’interaction du travail de fiction et du travail d’analyse et / ou de recherche chez des écrivains migrants. Nous étudions l’apport de ces écrivains à la construction des images de la ville, des lectures, des représentations, des interprétations de même que leur lutte pour restaurer, valoriser et perpétuer la mémoire des immigrants et celle des espaces urbains et périurbains qu’ils ont investis et où ils ont oeuvré.

Abstract

Literature plays a major role in making a city what it is, in building its imaginary profile and in telling its story. Migrant writing provides an inside view of the process of acculturation, of the construction of the migrant identity and of urban identity.

After a discussion of the concepts of “migrant identity”, of “urban identity” and of “migrant writing”, the migrant literature of several French-speaking areas is analysed, and more particularly the interaction of fictional work with analysis and / or research work among migrant writers. This paper examines the contribution of these writers to the construction of the city’s images, of readings, representations and interpretations, as well as their fight to restore, enhance and perpetuate the memory of immigrants and that of urban and peri-urban areas where they have settled and worked.
