AB - The female body has been a long-standing theme in the work of Brigitte Haentjens. With the founding of Sibyllines, she developed a recurring technique wherein her female characters feign normalcy until, owing to constant repetition, their image unravels and contradicts itself. The present article examines four aspects of this conflictual representation: the rhythmic structure of the choreographed movements of the bodies on stage, the use of the chorus, the women’s carefully-chosen costumes and the gestural language they develop. Examples are taken from three productions: Hamlet-machine (2001), La cloche de verre (2003) and Médée-Matériau (2004).
