Note biographique
Historien de formation, Gaston Deschênes a fait carrière à l’Assemblée nationale du Québec pendant 30 ans. Spécialiste de l’histoire parlementaire, il a publié plusieurs ouvrages dont Le Parlement de Québec, histoire, anecdotes et légendes ; et L’Hôtel du Parlement, mémoire du Québec. Sur sa région natale, la Côte-du-Sud, il a publié : L’année des Anglais, la Côte du Sud à l’heure de la Conquête, qui lui a valu le Mérite historique régional (2005), le Prix littéraire Philippe-Aubert-de-Gaspé (2007) et le Prix Monique-Miville-Deschênes (2009). En 1999, il a publié chez Septentrion, Une capitale éphémère, Montréal et les événements tragiques de 1849.
