Abstracts
Résumé
Au début du XXe siècle, un homme a entrepris la tâche de traduire le Petit Larousse illustré en langue abénakise. Henry-Lorne Masta (1853-1943), maître d’école pendant une trentaine d’années dans la communauté abénakise d’Odanak et lui-même Abénakis, est l’homme derrière cette traduction. Sa traduction du Petit Larousse illustré, restée dans l’ombre sous forme d’un manuscrit de 222 pages, est pourtant un objet beaucoup plus intéressant à différents niveaux. Nous allons nous pencher, dans le cadre de cet article, sur ce manuscrit inédit, ainsi que sur les défis auxquels Masta a été confronté lors de la rédaction de son ouvrage (choix éditoriaux, difficultés reliées à la traduction de concepts modernes, etc.).
