AB - This article offers an overview of the francophone short story in British Columbia through consideration of such well known authors as Jean-Claude Castex, Christian Récizac, Monique Genuist, Marguerite-A. Primeau and Inge Israel. Emerging from the province’s French-speaking minority and migrant community, the francophone short story of British Columbia is marked at the thematic level by the synergies and creative tensions engendered by the repeated passage of the diasporic story between the native land and the new, between nostalgia and national memory, between urban space and the abundant natural beauty so integral to the dominant social myths of the West Coast.
