Abstract
Many readers of Gabrielle Roy’s fiction recognize the Manitoba place names, Prairie landscape and other elements of reality. Indeed the impact of Roy’s early years and career as a teacher in Manitoba is apparent in many of her works of fiction. This article examines various aspects of her writing, showing how, although both esthetic and thematic dimensions are inspired by Manitoba, her art transcends the original boundaries of time and space.
