Les rapports femmes-hommes en milieu urbain: patriarcat ou partenariat ?

Abstract

The paper first shows, in the context of recent theorising on hierarchies and markets, the existence of relationships between increasing female labour force participation and the emergence of certain forms of urban social polarisation. These new forms of polarisation are then linked with occupational asymmetry within employed couples. This analysis tends to suggest that central city neighbourhoods are milieux more conducive to the erosion of patriarchy than suburbs. Finally, the question of a new gender partnership is suggested to be as crucial to the theorising on local development than that of class partnership.

Résumé

Il s'agit d'abord de montrer, à l'aide des théorisations récentes sur les hiérarchies et les marchés, l'existence de liens entre l'insertion des femmes dans la sphère de l'emploi et certaines formes émergentes de polarisation sociale urbaine. Ensuite, ces nouvelles formes de polarisation sont mises en rapport avec l'asymétrie professionnelle au sein des couples. L'analyse suggère que les vieux quartiers urbains sont des milieux sociaux plus propices à l'effritement du patriarcat que les banlieues. L'ensemble du propos mène à conclure que la question d'un nouveau partenariat entre hommes et femmes peut être posée, dans les théories sur le développement local, avec tout autant de pertinence que celle, plus habituelle, des formes de partenariat interclassistes.
