Le tourisme de réunions et de congrès : un champ de recherche pour une géographie de la mondialisation

Résumé

Dans le cadre de la géographie de la mondialisation, il apparaît intéressant d'étudier le tourisme de congrès qui est par essence une activité basée sur les flux à la fois humains, économiques, scientifiques et culturels. Or, aborder ce sujet est relativement délicat à cause des nombreux problèmes liés à la terminologie et au manque de cohérence des statistiques le concernant. Cet article a pour objectif, tout d'abord, de préciser les définitions, d'expliciter les termes usités et de caractériser les sources d'information. Nous examinons ensuite la répartition des congrès internationaux afin, d'une part, de mettre à jour les dynamiques continentales et étatiques et d'analyser, d'autre part, le réseau des villes à l'échelle planétaire.

Abstract

Within the context of the geography of globalization, it seems interesting to study conference tourism, an activity which is essentially based on human, economic, scientific and cultural flows. But, due to many problems linked to terminology and the lack of coherent statistics protocols, the subject is a rather delicate one. This paper proposes, on one hand, to clarify definitions and terminology, as well as to characterize sources of information. On the other hand, we will examine the distribution of international meetings in order both to reveal continental and state dynamics and to analyze the network of cities Worldwide.
