Médias et dispositifs : une approche comparatiste

RÉSUMÉ

La fortune actuelle de la notion de dispositif tient au moins autant au poids des réglages institutionnels qui président à l'élaboration des représentations - comme à leur appropriation - qu'à la technicisation croissante de nos environnements quotidiens. Aucun médium n'est par nature réductible aux dispositifs institutionnellement établis. Chacun d'entre eux contient une pluralité de dispositifs virtuels dont un grand nombre ne sont pas actualisés. À l'intérieur d'un même dispositif, il existe aussi une pluralité d'usages dont certains peuvent changer la destination du dispositif concerné.

ABSTRACT

The current popularity of the notion of apparatus derives at least as much from the weight of the institutional arrangements which govern the production of representations and their appropriation as it does from the growing technicization of our daily environment. No medium is by nature reducible to established institutional apparatuses. Each contains within it a plurality of virtual apparatuses, of which a large number are not activated. Within one apparatus, there also exists a plurality of usages, some of which can change the outcome of that apparatus.
