Résumé

L’école d’aujourd’hui est traversée par une contradiction qui en fait plus que jamais le lieu et l’enjeu des forces sociales en présence. Elle oppose les forces néo-conservatrices, celles du pouvoir, prônant le retour à sa mission traditionnelle et les forces progressistes qui l’investissent d’une mission élargie correspondant tout à la fois à une conception nouvelle de la personne humaine et à la nécessité conjoncturelle d’assumer un rôle de suppléance sans précédent dans l’histoire récolte.

Summary

The contemporary school system is being run through by a contradiction that makes the school, more than ever, both the scene and the stake of conflicting social forces. That contradiction confronts the neo-conservative forces of power which vindicate the coming back to the school's traditional mission, with the progressive forces that invest the school with a larger assignment. The latter is based at the same time upon a new conception of the human person and the circumstantial necessity for the school to play a substitute role in a way never known so far in recent history.
