Les musulmans et l’institutionnalisation de l’islam dans la société britannique

Résumé

Dans cet article, nous explorons le contexte sociétal qui a facilité une institutionnalisation de l’islam en Grande-Bretagne. La non-séparation de l’Église et de l’État ainsi que les possibilités de participation politique sont les deux piliers de l’interaction entre les musulmans et la société britannique. Leurs revendications et leurs modalités d’organisation sociale se déploient dans ce cadre. Nous examinerons la participation de ce groupe ainsi que son identité, en accordant une attention particulière aux jeunes et aux femmes de culture musulmane.

Abstract

This article explores the societal context that facilitated the institutionalisation of Islam in British society. Underlying the interaction between Muslims and British society are 1) the non-separation between Church and State and 2) opportunities for Muslims to participate in the political process. This provides the framework for their mode of social organisation and the claims they put forward. We examine the social participation and group identity of people of Muslim culture, especially youth and women.
