Résumé
Les enjeux démographiques des sociétés postindustrielles, les tensions politiques et les catastrophes naturelles s’allient au développement rapide des technologies de l’information, du transport et des communications pour favoriser la mobilité des personnes à l’échelle internationale. Les mouvements de populations modifient l’organisation des sociétés et les questions entourant la « gestion » de la diversité culturelle nous interpellent. Ce travail met en lumière le cosmopolitisme comme élément de réponse aux conjonctures du monde contemporain. Il étudie particulièrement la mise en oeuvre de stratégies cosmopolites déployées par les membres de la communauté bahaï de Montréal, un groupe religieux hétéroclite et international dont le message prédit l’unité du genre humain. À travers le principe d’« unité dans la diversité », les pratiques et les préceptes bahaïs contribuent à créer des liens entre des individus provenant de tous les horizons, et ce, afin de construire le « village global » bahaï.

Abstract
The demographic challenges of post-industrialized societies, political tensions and natural disasters combine with rapid developments in information, transportation and communication technologies to promote the mobility of people internationally. Population movements change the organization of societies while issues surrounding the “management” of cultural diversity pose challenges. This article presents cosmopolitanism as a response to these contemporary changes. It focuses particularly on the implementation of cosmopolitan strategies deployed by members of the Baha’i[1] community of Montreal, an international and heterogeneous religious group whose message is one of world unity. Through the principle of “unity in diversity”, Baha’i teachings and practices help to create ties between people from many different backgrounds with the aim of constructing a Baha’i “global village”.

Note biographique
Gabrielle Désilets, M.Sc. (Université de Montréal), est candidate au doctorat en anthropologie à l’Australian National University. Ses recherches portent sur l’exploration des concepts de cosmopolitisme et de transnationalisme ainsi que sur les répercussions de la mobilité internationale sur le changement social.
