Abstract
In the field of international relations, Vincent Pouliot has developed a theory of practicality as a “material” theory of practice that complements the logics of consequence, appropriateness, and arguing. Paradoxically, the logic of practicality may well be the non-theoretical foundation for all IR theory. How does Pouliot’s approach, inspired by Bourdieu, lend itself to this kind of exercise ? In my view, there are two questions crucial to a sociological analysis of international relations practice from a Webero-Bourdieusian perspective : the role of politics, and the domination—and logic—of practice.
