Born in Leamington, Ontario, Canada, John Gayer studied art at the Ontario College of Art and in the Banff Centre’s Winter Studio Program before completing a degree in art history and anthropology at the University of Toronto. His artwork, which has encompassed painting, sculpture, photography, artist books, mail art, performance and installation, has been exhibited in Canada, Finland, Ireland and Sweden. Also active as a writer, his texts have appeared in Art Papers, Paper Visual Art Journal (papervisualart.com), Sculpture Magazine, this is tomorrow – Contemporary Art Magazine (thisistomorrow.info) and the Visual Artists’ News Sheet, among others.
