AB - Palestine, in Jean Genet’s last work, is not a physical place with its own reality, history and geography; it is rather a land which has disappeared, been erased, despite the fact that its name can be read between the letters of the name of an entire people: the Palestinians. This article analyzes how Genet’s reading of the Palestinian history makes it much more than a mere political event. While ostensibly observing a political and historical conflict in a land also called “mythical,” Genet configures another land belonging only to the realm of poetry. But which poetry? That of a writer or that of realty?
