Littérature et enseignement au Cameroun : problématique d'une politique culturelle

Résumé

L'enseignement de la littérature doit contribuer à la formation de l'individu, en le mettant en contact avec un ensemble de valeurs établies, une culture qui exerce une fonction intégrante. Mais le programme-cadre camerounais montre que l'objectif visé par les autorités politiques et pédagogiques est tout autre : installer l'individu dans l'universel, dans un « ailleurs sociopolitique et socioculturel ». En comparant dans les programmes, du primaire à l'Université, le poids des différentes littératures (française, africaine, camerounaise), l'auteur établit que le programme de littérature est à « focalisation externe » et qu'il entretient un processus de « déportation culturelle ». Après plus de trente ans d'indépendance, quels modèles pourraient assurer une véritable décolonisation?

Abstract

The teaching of literature ought to contribute to the individual's education by putting him or her in touch with accepted values and a culture which will promote personal integration. Yet the underlying character of educational programmes in Cameroons reveals that a different order of objectives has been envisaged by political and educational policy-makers; one dedicated to integrating the individual in the universal, a "socio-political and socio-cultural otherness". By comparing the relative degrees of emphasis given to different literatures (French, African or Cameroonian) in educational programmes ranging from primary school to university, the author shows that the teaching of literature has an "external focus" and in fact contemplates a process of "cultural deportation". After more than thirty years of independence, what alternative models can be adopted to pave the way to a real decolonization?
