Abstracts
Résumé
Cet article aborde plusieurs aspects ayant trait à la mort vidéoludique au coeur de l’expérience de deux jeux vidéo indépendants, soit Hotline Miami (Sodestrom et Wedin, 2012) et Binding of Isaac (McMillen et Himsl, 2011). Les deux titres étudiés s’appuient sur des mécaniques de jeu spécifiquement liées à la mort du personnage-joueur afin de conduire à des formes d’apprentissage distinctes ayant trait au rapport à l’espace et à la prise de risque, engendrant des cas de frustration qui contribuent à l’immersion vidéoludique. Nous conclurons en abordant la valeur de témoignage rattachée aux démarches visant à archiver des expériences de jeu liées à la mort vidéoludique.

Abstract
This article discusses several aspects pertaining to videogame death at the heart of the experience of two independent video games, Hotline Miami (Dennaton, 2012) and Binding of Isaac (McMillen and Himsl, 2011). Both games are based on specific game mechanics which condition the relationship to their virtual space and in-game risk-taking, leading to specific forms of learning and causing types of frustration contributing to videoludic immersion. We will conclude by addressing the testimonial value attached to endeavors to archive play-throughs of games where death plays an important role.
