Carbone 14 est une compagnie de théâtre qui a marqué la scène québécoise avec ses spectacles qui mélangent mime, danse et théâtre. À ses débuts, sous le nom Les Enfants du paradis, elle présentait des spectacles de rue. Puis, en 1981, la troupe participait à l’ouverture d’Espace libre; en 1995, elle inaugurait son propre espace, l’Usine C. Le présent article retrace l’évolution de Carbone 14 et de sa figure centrale, Gilles Maheu, en étudiant ses différents lieux, de la rue à l’Usine C, et les spectacles qui y ont été produits.

Abstract

Carbone 14 is a theater company that has made an impact on the Québécois scene with its performances mixing mime, dance, and theater. From its beginnings, under the name Les Enfants du paradis, Carbone 14 presented street theater performances. Then in 1981, the troupe participated in the opening of Espace Libre; in 1995, it inaugurated its own space, l'Usine C. This article traces the evolution of Carbone 14 and its central figure, Gilles Maheu, in studying the troupe's different spaces, from the street to Usine C, and the shows that were produced there.
