Cette étude présente une classification des tourbières localisées dans la partie sud de la Jamésie. Cette classification se veut simple, adaptée à la photo-interprétation et applicable à plusieurs fins. Elle reconnaît trois niveaux de perception : les groupements végétaux, les unités morphologiques et les types de tourbières. Les 22 groupements végétaux retenus sont nommés et décrits à partir des espèces végétales dominantes et sous-dominantes d’un ensemble de stations. Ils sont identifiables par un observateur qui circule dans la tourbière et chaque groupement occupe une position précise le long de l’hydrosère. À partir des différents agencements de ces groupements, de la répartition des mares, de la structure végétale et de la proximité d’un plan d'eau, sont définies 12 unités morphologiques. Toutes ces unités se perçoivent par un observateur qui survole le territoire à faible altitude ou par un photo-interprète. À un niveau supérieur de synthèse, appréciable par un observateur situé à moyenne altitude, on identifie 6 types de tourbières, en regard de leur régime trophique et de leur position topographique. Enfin, une vue d’ensemble du territoire permet de reconnaître 5 régions de tourbières sur la base de la représentativité des unités morphologiques et des types de tourbières.

Abstract

This study presents a classification of the peatlands located in the southern part of the James Bay area. This classification tends to be simple, adapted to photo-interpretation and appropriate for several purposes. It recognizes three perception levels: vegetation groups, morphological units and peatland types. The 22 vegetation groups identified were named and described according to the dominant and subdominant species of several sampling sites. They can be recognized by the observer going about the peatland, and each group occupies a definite position along the hydrosere. According to the different arrangements within these groups, the distribution of ponds, the vegetation structure and the vicinity of a water-side, 12 morphological units are identified. All these units are perceived by the observer flying over the area at low altitude or by the photo-interpreter. At a higher level of recognition, noticeable by the observer located at medium altitude, 6 peatland types are identified in regard to their nutritive regime and their topographical situation. Finally, an outlook of the whole area allows the designation of 5 peatland regions based upon the relative importance of morphological units and peatland types.

Zusammenfassung

Diese Forschungsarbeit zeigt eine klassifikation der Torfmoore die im Süden der James Bay Region liegen. Diese klassifikation will einfach sein der Photo-Interpretation angepasst und zu verschiedenen Zwecken geeignet. Sie zeigt drei verschiedene Beobachtungsstufen: die Vegetationsgruppen, die morphologischen Einheiten und die Torfmoor Typen. Die 22 behaltenen Vegetationsgruppen wurden benannt und nach ihren hervorragenden Arten der verschiedenen Forschungsplätze beschrieben. Sie sind von einem im Torfmoor gehenden Beobachter erkennbar und jede Gruppe hat eine bestimmte Lage an der Hydrosere. Je nach der Anordnung der Elemente innerhalb der Gruppe, wie die Verteilung der Teiche, die Vegetationsstruktur und die Nähe eines Ufers, wurden 12 morphologische Einheiten bestimmt. Alle diese Einheiten sind von einem tief fliegenden Beobachter der Gegend bemerkbar oder von einem Photointerpreten. Von einer höheren Beobachtungsstufe, mit einem Beobachter in mittlerer Flughöhe sind 6 Torfmoor Typen erkennbar, die sich durch ihre topographische Lage und ihre Nahrungsweise unterscheiden. Schliesslich lässt eine Gesamtansicht der Gegend 5 Torfmoor Regionen erkennen, die sich auf die relative Bedeutung der morphologischen Einheiten und der Torfmoor Typen stützt.
