RÉSUMÉ
Les édifices travertineux (travertins s.s. et dépôts associés) sont des indicateurs écologiques et géomorphologiques de révolution des milieux fluviatiles des régions karstiques. Ils évoluent, au cours de l'Holocène, en trois temps. 1) La construction des barrages débute souvent dès le Préboréal. Elle se poursuit jusqu'à l'Atlantique, à la faveur d'un optimum bioclimatique forestier. Les remblaiements palustres, en arrière des dômes stromatolithiques, comportent des tourbes datées principalement entre 7000 et 3800 ans BP. La pression exercée par l'homme est encore discrète. 2) Entre 4000 BP (Néolithique final-Chalcolithique ancien) et le début de notre ère, parfois dès le Chasséen, la sédimentation travertineuse s'interrompt ou se poursuit sous une forme ralentie et dégradée, tandis que le couvert végétal s'ouvre sous le poids de la pression anthropique ; les récurrences travertineuses varient selon les sites et les aléas de l'occupation humaine. 3) À l'époque historique, le démantèlement des barrages s'accélère tandis que l'homme achève la mise en valeur des écosystèmes humides liés aux travertins. La vidange des zones palustres et l'enfoncement des nappes phréatiques accompagnent le creusement des vallées et le dégagement des terrasses travertineuses. La sédimentation se poursuit de nos jours sous une forme discrète dans des sites refuges. L'histoire holocène des travertins de fond de vallée s'inscrit dans une séquence climato-anthropique.
ABSTRACT
Travertine systems (travertines s.s. and associated deposits) are ecological and geomorphological indicators of the evolution of river environments in karstic regions. Their study reveals three main evolutionary stages. 1) The construction of travertine dams begins as far back as the Preboreal. It appears to be generalized during the Atlantic, thanks to a forest bioclimatic optimum. Behind stromatolite domes, river and wetland filling materials accumulate. They sometimes contain fen peats dated from 7000 to 3800 years BP. Man's pressure is still weak. 2) Between the late Neolithic-early Chalcolithic (around 4000 BP) and the beginning of our era, travertine sedimentation either stops or continues, according to sites and the fluctuations of human presence, in a slow and degraded form (tufas with travertine sands). Forest cover opens under the weight of human pressure. 3) The dismantling of travertine dams and the downcutting of valleys, both wide (>10m)) and rapid (about one milllenium) accelerate during the historic age. Travertine constructions and humid ecosystems appear to be attractive to Man. The emptying of marshy lands and the progressive lowering of the underground waters coincide with the modeling of travertine terraces. Nowadays, stromatolite sedimentation is still occurring, but in a less conspicuous way in refuge sites. The Holocene history of travertine follows, on the whole, a climatic-anthropic sequence.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
Die Travertin-Bauten (Travertine s.s. und damit verbundene Ablagerungen) sind ôkologische und geo-morphologische lndikatoren fur die Ent-wicklung der FluB-Milieus in Karst-Regionen. Im Laufe des Holozàns entwickeln sie sich in drei Zeitraumen. 1) Der Bau der Damme beginnt oft schon im Prâboreal. Er setzt sich fast bis zum Atlantik dank einem bioklimatischen Wald-Optimum fort. Die Sumpf-Aufschuttungen, hinter den stromatolithischen Domen, enthalten Torf, der hauptsachlich auf zwischen 7000 und 3800 Jahre v.u.Z. datiert wird. Der von Menschen ausgeubte Druck ist noch unauffallig. 2) Zwischen 4000 v.u.Z. (Ende des Neolithikumsfrùhes Chalkolithikum) und dem Anfang unserer Ara, manchmal schon im mittleren Neolithikum, halt die Travertin-Sedimentierung an oder setzt sich in verlangsamter und schwàcherer Form fort, wàhrend sich die Pflanzendecke unter dem Gewicht des anthropogenen Drucks ôffnet; die Travertin-Rucklâufigkeiten variieren je nach Ort und den Umstanden der men-schlichen Einwirkung. 3) In der historischen Epoche beschleunigt sich der Abbau der Damme wàhrend der Mensch die Nutzung der mit den Travertinen verbundenen Ôkosysteme vollends durchsetzt. Das Entleeren der Sumpfzonen und allmâhliche Sinken der Grundwasserspiegel begleiten die Ein-schneidung der Tàler und das Freimachen der Travertin-Terrassen. Die Sedimentierung setzt sich auf weniger auffâllige Weise an geschutzten Platzen bis heute fort. Die Holozân-Geschichte der Talsohlen-Travertine erfolgt in einer klimatischanthropischen Sequenz.
