Abstract
Considering the changes in our relationship to the night throughout history, this article examines the epistemological foundations that have informed the making of my essay-documentary Nuits (2014), in which I evoked what can be termed “nocturnal states.” The technological choices as well as the aesthetic and narrative commitments made during this research-creation process are discussed with regard to the way in which the theme of the night is treated in cinema, and in Hollywood films in particular.
