Abstract
This study investigates post-investment monitoring by venture capitalists (VCs) in the manufacturing sector in Quebec. It concerns the post-investment stage and is analyzed using an organizational angle. A study of five partnerships between (VCs) and SMEs (small and medium-sized entreprises) was conducted. As with most studies relating to the venture capital industry, the data was obtained through means of interviews rather than by polls. The results identify three follow-up processes : the process of execution, preparation, and supervision and analysis. The results also show that the follow-up is adapted according to several factors which include : the entrepreneur’s biographical profile and strategy ; quality of the management team, type of venture capital company ; the quality of the dynamics between the entrepreneur and the VCs, type of financing, and the nature and level of the differences between forecasts and actual results. A post-investment monitoring model is proposed and future research projects are suggested.
