Biographical note
Laura J. O’Brien is a Ph.D. candidate in architecture at McGill University in Montreal. Her research investigates the intersections of gender and class in benevolent institutions in Montreal at the turn of the twentieth century. Her research interests include gender and architecture, feminist human geography, cultural landscape studies, and the history of emotions. She holds an M.A. in Art History from Concordia University. Her research is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et Culture (FRQSC). She was a recipient of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) Collection Research Grant Doctoral Residency in the summer of 2018.
