Nous réfléchissons ici aux conditions concrètes de l’administration de la sécurité dans les espaces urbains « à problèmes†». Nous nous appuyons sur les enseignements d’une enquête de terrain menée de 2003 à 2006 dans un quartier relevant de la Politique de la ville, en France. La focalisation de l’attention sur le responsable bénévole d’une institution socio-éducative, placé au confluent d’intérêts concurrents, apporte des éclairages sur les positions et les prises de position que les investissements multiples dans et par la sécurité génèrent.

Abstract

In this article we examine the on-the-ground situation of managing security in “difficult” urban settings. The data come from a field study conducted between 2003 and 2006 in a neighbourhood covered by France’s politique de la ville [urban policy]. Clarification of the stances adopted and the positions generated by multiple investments in and by security can be achieved by spotlighting the volunteer responsible for a socioeducational institution, a person who is located at the intersection of competing interests.
